INTRODUCTION

As part of social work curriculum vita, Nirmala Arts and Science College conducted
5 Day Rural Camp from October 2nd 2024 to October 7th 2024 at Tavinhal Panchayat in
Wayanad. The title of camp is JEEVANA 2024.the camp aimed to provide social work
trainees with an immersive and comprehensive understanding of community, fostering
empathy and insight into the lives and experience of its residents.

The objective of the camp includes analysing a community's geographical, social,


economic, and political systems and their interrelationships, to interact with community and
people, understanding and applying the ethical values of social work, learning the principles
and models of community organization. Additionally, building rapport with community
members, and developing skills in social analysis, needs assessment, and program evaluation
are essential. Finally, enhancing communication skills through oral, written, and presentation
methods in community contexts is crucial.

Day:1

Date: October 2nd2024

Time: 6:00 am to 10:00 pm

INTRODUCTION

The first day of JEEVANA 2024 5-day rural camp was dedicated to promoting
cleanliness in honor of Gandhi Jayanti. The camp begins with physical activities and then
inauguration ceremony, cultural programs, ends with review meeting.

OBJECTIVES

⚫ To interact with residents

⚫ To co-ordinate inauguration ceremony

⚫ To invite and inform the residents about the inauguration ceremony and five-day rural
camp

⚫ To conduct a cleaning program, aim to maintain clean and hygienic environment


ABOUT THE CAMP

Jeevana 2024 was a 5 day rural camp in Wayanad District .Thavinhal panchayat. The aim of
the camp was to understanding a community in terms of geographical, social, economic, and
their political system. The camp was under the guidance of Mr : Lalu P Joy (HOD, Department
of social work), Mrs : Sreedevi Murali,(Lecture) and coordinated by Mrs:Janson Paul James
and Miss: Deepika G .the trainees was stayed at Kannothumala community hall .Various
committees was formed for the smooth running of the camp. As the part of the camp there is
trainees conducted drug awareness programs, socio-economic surveys, cleanness programs.
For interacting with people, we are had some outdoor activities and cultural programs.

ACTIVITIES

The camp started with an exercise session, after the breakfast the area around the camp was
cleaned in the purpose of Gandhi Jayanti. In conjuction with inauguration program, the stage
was decorated by the trainees and form groups, to invite resident to the inauguration and inform
them about the five-day rural camp. At 2;00pm after the lunch the inauguration ceremony was
commenced with LC Joy, (Panchayat President) delivering the inaugural address. Mr : Lalu P
Joy(HOD, Department of social work) deliver the presidential address. The inauguration
concluded with vibrant cultural program presented by social work trainees and peoples in
community. After the tea break there is intergaming session. The camp was concluded by a
review session, the trainees share their experience, challenges faced in that day.

OBSERVATION

• The social work trainee observed that the people are very welcoming
• The trainee observed that the people in this community were very competent and
cooperative. And the trainee understood that they were interested in participating in the
programs.
• To observed that the community’s geographical structure and that people’s skills and
approach
• The trainee observed the culture and environment of the community
LEARNING

• Social work trainee learned about the importance of seva week and learn the value of
environmental cleanliness on Gandhi Jayanti day.
• Social work trainee learned about to organize and conduct the inauguration ceremonies
in professionally
• Trainee learned about to communicate and interact with community and people
• Trainee learned about the culture of the people

EVALUATION

On the first day of the rural camp, the social work trainees were able to understand the attitude
of the people of Thavinhal panchayat and their cooperation. The trainees were able to conduct
the first ceremony and inauguration program in successfully. overall, first day of rural camp
was highly informative for trainees.

CONCLUSION

On the first day of 5-day rural camp, trainees received positive behavior from the rural
community. As a part of training we got a great opportunity to interact with common peoples

INTRODUCTION

The second day of Jeevana 2024 rural camp was started with the yoga session. The main
program of the second day was the Tribal school visiting.

Taking the aim of the awareness program as “Say no to drugs”. A drug awareness class was
conducted in the Edathana tribal school and outdoor activities were conducted to interact with
the children and made them aware of the ill effects of drug use. Then the social work trainees
conducted a flash mob under the title say no to drugs. The afternoon session was dedicated to
field word. The social work trainees conducted a socio-economic survey to review the socio-
economic status of the people in Thavinhal panchayat. This survey helped to understand the
living conditions of the people and interact with the people. Then there was the cultural
program session. The program was a success with the participation on the residence. Then the
day was windup with a review meeting.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives are.,

• Tribal School visiting and conduct an awareness class, interact with the children and
encourage their skills, conduct a flash mob based on the theme “Say no to drugs”
• Conduct a survey about assess the socio-economic condition of the people of Tavinjal
Panchayat
• Invite more people to the cultural program and participate in the program.

ACTIVITIES

The second of Jeevana 2024 rural camp started with the wakeup call 6:30 am. The trainees
participated in the first session of yoga class. After that one of the main objectives of the second
day was to visit Edathana Tribal school and conduct a awareness session for the children on
the theme “SAY NO TO DRUGS”. Trainees took an awareness class about drug abuse and
the importance to say no to drugs. The indoor activities, provided opportunities to promote the
skills of the children and interacted with the children. As a part of say no to drugs, social work
trainees conducted a flash mob at Edathana tribal school. After that, on the afternoon session ,
the trainees divided into 2 groups for the socio-economic survey and went to various places in
the community, interacted with people, assessed their socio-economic status and the major
problems faced by them. After 4:30 pm the trainees returned to the community hall and made
arrangements and preparations for the cultural program. Later games and programs were
conducted for the people of the community and they were also participate in the cultural
program.
OBSERVATION

The social work trainees observed the movements of the tribal school and about the children
of the school and their study subjects and what learning facilities they get. The social work
trainees observed the socio-economic status of the people of Thavinhal panchayat and what
limitations they face. The social work trainee observed that peoples are very communicative.

LEARNING

The social work trainees learned that there is a special school for tribal students in the
community and that they should be given special treatment. The trainees learned about the
structure of tribal school's recruitment of teachers and the necessity of giving drug awareness
classes. The social work trainee learned about the main problems of the people in the
community and what facilities they need. The social work trainee learns what the common
problem of the community is and how the community is

EVALUATION

The second day of the camp included all the sessions. All the activities of the tribal school
were done correctly. The awareness class, activity session, flash mob were all completed
beautifully. The socio- economic survey was completed on 10 houses. It was possible to get
people to participate in the cultural program. Overall, all the objectives were covered

INTRODUCTION

Jeevana 2024 5 days rural camp 3rd day started with zumba session. The main session on the
third day was the PRA workshop. The PRA workshop class was taken by Ms: Jimsi. She
received social work trainee to conduct PRA workshop training to understand the importance
of PRA workshop and to conduct PRA. After making the necessary arrangements for the
cultural program, the cultural program went well and ended the day 3 with a review meeting
session.
OBJECTIVES

• To attend the PRA session


• Conduct PRA session and Get PRA practice
• Add new programs to cultural program

ACTIVITY

The third day of Jeevan 2024 5 day rural camp was started with zumba class. After that, the
social work trainees participated in the PRA session which is the main session of the day.in
that session we get an awareness about how to conduct a PRA and what was the importantce
in conducting PRA, Later the trainees conducted a demo PRA session it was conducted on in
groups. The session was very effective in the social work profession.Social work trainees
learned and practiced 2 important methods in the PRA session. After that, arrangements were
made for the cultural program and the cultural program was conducted.

OBSERVATION

• The social work trainee observed that how the PRA is conducted, how the mapping for
doing the PRA is done.
• observed that the cooperation of people and the entry of new people.

LEARNING

The social work trainee learned how to conduct PRA and how to maping for PRA. Then the
trainee understood why PRA is being conducted and what is the essential story of PRA. The
trainee also learned how to identify the main problem through the PRA method and how to
find the most important problem through the ranking method.

EVALUATION

The PRA session was very informative and useful for social work trainee .Through the session
trainees understood the importance PRA session in social work. Also, understood how
professional identified the problems of rural community through Participatory Rural Appraisal
.interaction session and activities were helpful for the future training of social work.
CONCLUSION

The 3rd day of rural camp provided vital information of social work profession.After all the
session trainees understood the importance of field work in social work and importance of
PRA. The trainee also understood how to identify the main problem through the PRA
method .overall the day was good,and learn many practical ideas about social work.

Day:4

Date:05/10/2024

Time:6:00 am to 10:00pm

INTRODUCTION

The 4th day of the rural camp started at 6am,then after the session of exercise , the trainees were
ready to visit the thennal jungle camp,located in kattikkulam.the main program of the 4 th day
was tribal visiting and interaction.at 10:25 am the trainees reached the thennal jungle resort .
mr:anas took a deep deatailed description of the forest and its structure. After the session sir
lalu guided the trainees to visit the forest and sir lalu analyzed the behavior patterns of
wildanimals .later,trainees returned to the community hall in the evening and conduct cultural
programs.the trainees reviewed the day and shared their experience.

OBJECTIVES

• To conduct tribal settlement visit and interact with them


• To visit thennal jungle camp
• To understand about the living condition of tribal settlement
• To see wild animals and know more about the forest

ACTIVITIES

The day began with an early wakeup call at 6:00 am and followed by the morning activities.
Then trainees went the thennal jungle camp of kattikkulam. After reaching the thennal,
Mr:Anas (naturalist)took a class about forest and wildlife animals .after lunch the trainees visit
the tribal settlement and interact with them .the trainees went to forest under the guidance of
sir lalu.trainees came back to the camp at 6:45 pm and conduct culturals .then had dinner and
held a review meeting .then preprations were made for the next day.

OBSERVATION

The trainee observed the structure of the forest, the relationship of the tribals to the forest, the
sounds and footprints of wild animals. Trainees observed the living conditions of tribal
settlement. Trainee observed what are the precaution taken by the tribes to protect from wild
animals. Also observed the building structure of the tribal settlement.

LEARNING

Through the jungle camp visit trainees learned about settlement of tribals and there living
conditions. And also learned how to behave in forest.

EVALUATION

4th day rural camp was a new experience for trainees and objectives with comprehensive
understanding of the settlements of tribes and there living conditions.social work trainee were
get an informative class about environment.

CONCLUSION

Social work trainee were got an good opportunity to visit the thennal jungle camp then trainee
got a session about environment and experience the border side of forest by foot.trainee
concluded the day with lots of experiences gaining from rural camp visit.

Day:5

Date:06/10/2024

Time:6.00 am to 12.00 am
INTRODUCTION

The final day of JEEVANA 2024 the rural camp commenced with a wake-up call and done
morning activities. Trainees went trekking at 7. Am and explore the cave. After that trainees
visited the old bungalow and spend some times there. Retuning the community hall and
prepared for the cultural programs. The cultural meeting started at 7pm. Best camper was
selected through voting. Farzin and Chandana were the best campers. Then Mr. Ajith was
honoured for helping the camp to run. Then an excellent cultural program started and everyone
gave a good performance. A community feast was provided by trainees all who attended the
event. Then the camp fire and review meeting was held. The final day of rural camp ended at
3'o clock.

OBJECTIVES

• To go for trucking
• To explore the nature
• To participate in the final program

ACTIVITIES

The final day of the camp commenced with 6 am wakeup call, followed by the bed coffee.
After the morning session trainees embarked on a trucking adventure. Trainees explored cave
during this session. Afterward trainees took a break and enjoyed breakfast in front of the old
bungalow, surrounded by natures serenity. Then trainees continued truck. Returning the
community hall and prepared for the cultural programs. Cultural meeting started at 7 pm. Best
camper was selected through voting, Farzin and Chandana were the best campers. Then Mr.
Ajith was honoured for helping the camp to run. Afterwards, the trainees expressed their
gratitude to all the residents for their cooperation as a camp for so many days. Then a

outstanding started and everyone gave a good performance. A community feast was prepared
by trainees to all who attended the event. Then the camp fire and review meeting was held.
trainees and faculties shared their experience about the 5-day rural camp. Final programs ended
at morning 3'o clock.
OBSERVATION

Through the trekking trainee observed the beauty of nature. Geographical differences were
observed by trainees in rural areas as opposed to urban areas.

LEARNINGS

Trainees completed the 5-day rural camp together as a group and learned about community and
how community is built on staying together. It was very useful for a social work trainee. Also,
trainee learned about the difficulties of traveling in rural areas.

EVALUATION

The final day of rural camp was highly entertained and also informative for trainees. Trekking
felt like an adventure trip for the trainees. Also, the performances of the residents in the area.
were excellent. The trainees were able to study and understand the rural community through
various 5-day programs. Through the interaction with rural community trainees fulfilled
objectives of the rural camp.

CONCLUSION

The last day of the rural camp, JEEVANA 2024 the trainees were able to reach another level
of their education while completing all the objectives set forward by the camp. The camp was
a great experience for the trainees career.
