Importance of Value Education: Types

Cultural Value
Cultural values are concerned with what is right and wrong, good and evil, as well as
conventions and behavior. Language, ethics, social hierarchy, aesthetics, education,
law, economics, philosophy, and many social institutions all reflect cultural values.
Moral Value
Ethical principles include respecting others' and one's own authority, keeping
commitments, avoiding unnecessary conflicts with others, avoiding cheating and
dishonesty, praising people and making them work, and encouraging others.
Personal Values
Personal values include whatever a person needs in social interaction. Personal values
include beauty, morality, confidence, self-motivation, regularity, ambition, courage,
vision, imagination, and so on.
Spiritual Value

clarity, and devotion to God are examples of spiritual virtues.
Spiritual value education emphasizes self-discipline concepts. satisfaction with self-
discipline, absence of wants, general greed, and freedom from seriousness.
Social Value
A person cannot exist in the world unless they communicate with others. People are
looking for social values such as love, affection, friendship, noble groups, reference
groups, impurity, hospitality, courage, service, justice, freedom, patience, forgiveness,
coordination, compassion, tolerance, and so on.
Universal Value
The perception of the human predicament is defined by universal ideals. We identify
ourselves with mankind and the universe through universal ideals. Life, joy, fraternity,
love, sympathy, service, paradise, truth, and eternity are examples of universal values.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s ten points for enlightened citizenship –

1) I realize that small aim is a crime. I will have a great goal in my life and work hard to achieve
that goal. I will acquire the knowledge continuously. I will sweat, sweat, sweat. I will persevere
to achieve the goal.
2) I will work with integrity and succeed with integrity.
3) I will be a good member of my family, a good member of the society, a good member of
my stat, a good member of the nation and a good member of the world.
4) I will always try to save or better someone’s life, without any discrimination of caste, creed,
language, religion or state. Wherever I am, a thought will always come to my mind. That is,
“What can I do for you?”
5) I will never get addicted to liquor, smoking and gambling. I will always try to retrieve at
least 5 people from addiction and help them to lead a quality of life.
6) I will always remember the importance of time. My motto will be “Let not my winged days
be spent in vain”.
7) I will plant at least 5 trees in my neighbourhood and grow. I will always work for making
my village clean, city clean and state clean so that my earth will be clean and green. I will do
my best to achieve energy independence by 2030.
8) As a youth of my nation, I will work and work with courage to achieve success in all my
tasks and enjoy the success of others.
9) I am as young as my faith and as old as my doubt. Hence, I will light up then, the lamp of
faith in my heart.
10) My national flag flies in my heart and I will bring glory to my state and the nation.

Positive thinking and creative thinking –

Positive thinking is a mental attitude in which you expect good and favorable results. In other
words, positive thinking is the process of creating thoughts that create and transform energy
into reality. A positive mind waits for happiness, health and a happy ending in any situation.
Creative thinking - A way of looking at problems or situations from a fresh perspective that
suggests unorthodox solutions (which may look unsettling at first).
Creative thinking can be stimulated both by an unstructured process such as brainstorming
(process for generating creative ideas and solutions through intensive and freewheeling group
discussion), and by a structured process such as lateral thinking (a way of solving a problem
by thinking about it in a different and original way and not using traditional or expected
methods).

Role of Media in Value Building

1. Raising awareness: The media can play a crucial role in raising awareness about social and
moral issues. It can highlight the consequences of negative behavior and promote positive
values. For instance, media campaigns can promote messages of tolerance, respect, and
empathy towards others.
2. Setting standards: The media can set standards for behavior and lifestyles. It can create
role models who exemplify positive values and demonstrate desirable behaviors. For
example, television shows and movies can portray characters who exhibit qualities such as
honesty, integrity, and kindness.
3. Promoting cultural understanding: The media can promote cultural understanding and
diversity by exposing people to different cultures, lifestyles, and perspectives. This can help
break down stereotypes and prejudice, and promote empathy and respect for others.
4. Encouraging critical thinking: The media can encourage critical thinking and analysis by
presenting diverse opinions and perspectives. This can help individuals to question their
own beliefs and values, and develop a more nuanced understanding of the world.
5. Providing education and information: The media can provide education and information
on a wide range of topics, including values and morality. For example, news programs can
inform the public about social issues and provide analysis of the moral implications of
various policies and events.
6. Shaping public opinion: Media has the power to shape public opinion and influence the
values and morals of a society. By highlighting certain issues and promoting certain values,
the media can contribute to the development of a more positive and ethical society.
7. Promoting role models: The media can promote role models who exemplify positive
values and behaviors. By presenting these role models as examples to follow, media can
help to shape the values and morals of individuals and society.
8. Exposing people to diversity: The media can expose people to different cultures, lifestyles,
and perspectives. By doing so, it can help break down stereotypes and promote empathy
and respect for others.
9. Holding authorities accountable: The media can hold authorities accountable for their
actions and promote ethical behavior. By exposing corruption and abuse of power, the
media can help to promote accountability and transparency.
10. Creating public debate: The media can create public debate and discussion about
important moral and ethical issues. By presenting diverse opinions and perspectives, media
can encourage people to engage in critical thinking and develop their own values and
beliefs.
11. Raising awareness about consequences: Media can raise awareness about the
consequences of negative behavior and promote positive values. By highlighting the
negative consequences of actions such as violence, discrimination, and intolerance, media
can help to promote positive values and behavior.

Human Rights –
Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)
Published by United Nations, as adopted by United Nations General Council in 1948.
The international community has a duty to uphold and defend these rights.
Meaning of human rights
Humans rights are the fundamental rights that humans have by the fact of being human and
that are neither created nor can be abrogated by any government. Human rights are rights
inherent to all human beings, whatever nationality, place residence, sex, national or ethical
origin, colour, religion, language or any other status.
Let us each do our part to make these universal rights a living reality for every man, woman
and child, everywhere.
Human rights abuses did not end when the Universal Declaration was adopted. But since then,
countless people have gained greater freedom. Violations have been prevented; independence
and autonomy have been attained. Many people – though not all – have been able to secure
freedom from torture, unjustified imprisonment, summary execution, enforced disappearance,
persecution and unjust discrimination, as well as fair access to education, economic
opportunities, and adequate resources and health-care. They have obtained justice for wrongs,
and national and international protection for their rights, through the strong architecture of the
international human rights legal system
Leadership qualities –
How often have you heard the comment, “He or she is a born leader?” There are certain
characteristics found in some people that seem to naturally put them in apposition where
they’re looked up to as a leader. Whether in fact a person is born a leader or develops skills
and abilities to become a leader is open for debate. There are some clear characteristics that are
found in good leaders. These qualities can be developed or may be naturally part of their
personality.
Seven Personal Qualities Found in A Good Leader:
1. A good leader has an exemplary character. It is of utmost importance that a leader is
trustworthy to lead others. A leader needs to be trusted and be known to live their life with
honesty and integrity. True authority is born from respect for the good character and
trustworthiness of the person who leads.
2. A good leader is enthusiastic about their work or cause and also about their roles leader.
People will respond more openly to a person of passion and dedication. Leaders need to be able
to be a source of inspiration, and be a motivator towards the required action or cause. Although
the responsibilities and roles of a leader may be different, the leader needs to be seen to be part
of the team working towards the goal. This kind of leader will not be afraid to roll up their
sleeves and get dirty
3. A good leader is confident. In order to lead and set direction, a leader needs to appear
confident as a person and in the leadership role. Such a person inspires confidence in others
and draws out the trust and best efforts of the team to complete the task well.
4. A leader also needs to function in an orderly and purposeful manner in situations of
uncertainty. People look to the leader during times of uncertainty and unfamiliarity and find
reassurance and security when the leader portrays confidence and a positive demeanor.
5. Good leaders are tolerant of ambiguity and remain calm, composed and steadfast to the main
purpose. Storms, emotions, and crises come and go and good leader takes these as part of the
journey and keeps a cool head.
6. A good leader as well as keeping the main goal in focus is able to think analytically. Not
only does a good leader view a situation as a whole, but is able to break it down into sub parts
for closer inspection. Not only is the goal in view but a good leader can break it down into
manageable steps and make progress towards it.
7. A good leader is committed to excellence. Second best does not lead to success. The good
leader not only maintains high standards, but also is proactive in raising the bar in order to
achieve excellence in all areas These seven personal characteristics are foundational to good
leadership. Some characteristics may be more naturally present in the personality of a leader.
However, each of these characteristics can also be developed and strengthened. A good leader
whether they naturally possess these qualities or not, will be diligent to consistently develop
and strengthen them in their leadership role.
