CAREERS AND CAREER CHOICES
DEVELOPMENT OF THE SELF IN SOCIETY

SUB-TOPICS:  Life Roles and responsibilities.


 Adolescences to adulthood.
 Diversity in jobs.
 Research careers.
 Opportunities within different career fields.
PURPOSE: The Project seeks to empower learners with research
skills and values to exercise responsibility when
making decisions and avoid unhealthy lifestyle
choices. To effectively deal with the societal
challenges such as drug abuse, eventually leading to
unhealthy choices that impact negatively on career in
later stages

DURATION: 8 Weeks

Read the problem statement below and investigate the issues it relates to before you

GROUP:

Preparation: For the completion of this part of the Project, you will be
required to source information from either researched
careers or interview the experts/professionals in their
respective fields. Acknowledge sources that have been
used.

Instruction: As a group, once you have done your research, compile a
report. Follow the questions below to complete your report.
Remember the aim is to develop skills for
opportunities in different career fields.

banner).
 Design a layout plan of your stall that your group will use to (2)
display your different careers.

GROUP:

Preparation: Decide as a group as to whether you will develop Careers


Day on social media (Option1) OR if you will promote the
Careers Day promotional material manually at your school
(Option 2).
Instruction: Before your career’s day can be implemented, you need to
collaborate what each person in the group needs to
complete.
Either do the Poster or the Pamphlet
(Choose between 2.1 or 2.2)

2.1 Posters

OPTION 1: (Digital Poster)


 Create a poster that will attract the attention of your fellow classmates to
display your careers.
 Your poster should be aimed at educating the school community on the
specific careers.
 Remember to also include the details of where you will further your career.
This could either be at an Institution of Higher Learning or a
company/business, etc.
 Decorate your poster by using relevant logos, pictures, demonstrations,
contact number of places that would provide key information on your careers.

 Print out some posters to put up around school and save as a .jpg file
to upload them onto social media.

OPTION 2: (Manual Poster)
 Create manual poster that will attract the attention of your fellow classmates
to display your careers.
 The poster should preferably be designed on an A3 paper / cardboard and
should be aimed at educating the school community on your specific
careers.
 Work neatly and legibly so that your viewers can clearly read your writing.
You may use paint/ oil pastels/ markers/ colour pencils, etc to make your
final product clear and colourful.
 The poster must be educational as discussed in Activity 1 above.
 Remember to also include the details of where you will further your career.
This could either be at an Institution of Higher Learning or a
company/business, etc.
 Decorate your poster by using relevant logos, pictures, demonstrations,
contact number of places that would provide key information on your
careers.


A duplicate of the same poster should be developed for posting on the
school notice board for everyone to notice.
Note: Display one poster around your school where the school community
can see it and submit the other poster in the evidence file.

2.2 Pamphlet: (Group Work)

 Create a digital pamphlet to advertise your career. Remember the aim of a
pamphlet is to attract the attention of individuals who intent to follow your
career.
The pamphlet must include the following:
 Requirements needed for pursuing your career.
 Soft skills required for your career.
 Possible salary expectations.
 Promotion possibilities in your career.
 Remember to also include the details of where you will further your career.
This could either be at an Institution of Higher Learning or a
company/business, etc.

Creating your pamphlet can be done digitally on Microsoft Word or one of these
online websites for free:

Note: Upload your pamphlet on your social media page. You could

OPTION 2 (Manual Pamphlet)

 Create a manual pamphlet to advertise your career. Remember the aim of a


pamphlet is to attract the attention of individuals who intent to follow your
career.
The pamphlet must include the following:
 Requirements needed for pursuing your career.
 Soft skills required for your career.
 Possible salary expectations.
 Promotion possibilities in your career.
 Remember to also include the details of where you will further your career.
This could either be at an Institution of Higher Learning or a
company/business, etc.
(Hint! A pamphlet uses both sides of an A4 page, so you will have
TWO pages of information back-to-back)
You could also make a few copies and hand out to your school
community. One of your pamphlets must be included when handing in
the Project.

Activity 3 Advert: (Group Activity) (20)


(Digital Advert)
 Create an advert which will market your Careers Day. The advert must
motivate the school community to support your stall at the exhibition. Your
advert should:
 Not exceed more than 3-5 minutes.
 Follow the criteria used for the poster/pamphlet.

Activity 4: Reflection (20)

Instruction: Reflect on how this Career’s Day impacted you (10)
personally (you can choose the medium in which you
want to convey this information which must include e.g.,
essay / mind map / illustrations / flow map /tree map,
etc.:
 Based on your research after completion of this project, will your
career of choice be relevant in the next 10 years and beyond? (2x3) (6)
 Suggest ONE way in which you could make a further impact in
your community when this project is over. And the further impact (1x2) (2)
this would have on your community in the future.

Activity 5: Evidence (10)


Group:
Preparation: Collect a list of resources used by the entire group Include
internet websites, video references etc.
Instruction: Compile ONE bibliography with the entire groups’
resources/
references.
Make sure you use the correct Harvard referencing
techniques. Include the list of names of people you have
interviewed for your Project. Use the reference on page 3
to guide you or the link below to

 Now that you are finished, compile your Project and hand it in
as a group, however each learner must hand in a project for
portfolio purposes. Make sure you have the following:

Activity 3- Evaluation of your Careers Day
Activity 4- Reflection (One per group member)
Activity 5- Bibliography of all sources used.
ONE Rubric per group attached to the back of all the pages. Only Activity
4 must have a rubric per group member.
