Prepare a 2,000-word essay that demonstrates your understanding of the theories, principles and
practices of tourism and society.
1
To comment on the impacts, you should
i. identify impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on tourism,
ii. consolidate research evidence and statistical data to showcase the severity of the impacts,
iii. comment on the overall impacts on tourism development.
Impacts of COVID-19 can be multi-faceted. In addition to decreased incomes, disrupted supply chains
result in many related business difficulties. Tourists’ expectations and psychological states are affected,
too.
There are likely to be encouraging evidence to support successes as well as disappointing data to indicate
setbacks. Students are expected to cover both sides.
Relevant theories (e.g., Butler’s (1980) tourism lifecycle, Leiper’s (1979) tourism system, stakeholder
theory, community participation model (Wu, Zhang & Fujiwara, 2013)) can be useful to support your
analysis.
2
Important:
Your essay must be based on reliable research and supported with a minimum of 15 different
sources. Academic concepts and theories, as well as research findings, must be properly cited in
