Exporting configuration information to one consolidated file
You can export either the information on the target HVM or the detailed
information on LPARs defined to such HVM, which appears in the HVM list in
the “System Configuration List” window, to one consolidated CSV file. To
perform this export, follow the steps below.
1. From the combo box in Item Selection group box of the “System
Configuration List” window, select HVM (if you want to export the
information on the target HVM) or LPAR (if you want to export the detailed
information on LPARs defined to such HVM). The steps hereafter assume
the former.

Updating configuration information
When the status of HVM or LPAR has been externally changed by such means
as HVM Screen, SC/BSM, or guest OS, the most current configuration
information must be reloaded so that HVM Navigator can recognize such
changes. To perform such update, follow the steps below.
1. On Viewer tab in the “Main” window of HVM Navigator, click Update
button.

2-36 Operation procedures

Hitachi Compute Blade HVM Navigator User's Guide – Viewer

2. During update processing, the progress is shown left in the status bar and
Update button changes to Update Cancel button. Upon completion, the
progress display ends and Update Cancel button returns to Update
button.

To cancel the update processing during the progress, click Update Cancel
button that toggles with Update button.

Guide to resolution of unexpected update result

Either of the actions below during update processing may sometimes cause
information display of the components in System Configuration tree view to
be unavailable in the right pane.
 A different tab (Profile, LPAR Configuration, Monitoring, Migration or
F/W Update) in the “Main” window is clicked during update processing.
 Update processing is disrupted by selecting Update Cancel button.

When the said Event occurs, take actions according to “When Registered HVM
Information Is Not Shown.”.

Notes on usage 4-1

Hitachi Compute Blade HVM Navigator User's Guide – Viewer

When HVM configuration has been changed
In the following cases, the current status display recognized by HVM Navigator
may not match the actual status or actual configuration of HVM. If any of the
following is suspect, click Update button on Viewer tab in the “Main” window
of HVM Navigator.
 LPAR configuration has been changed by means of Migration functions of
HVM Navigator.
 Configuration of HVMs and/or LPARs is externally changed by such means
as HVM Screen, SC/BSM, and guest OS.

When update processing is slow

Update operation reloads the latest information from all the HVMs registered
on Profile tab. When your registration on Profile tab includes one or more
powered-off or non-existing objects (e.g., IP address changed), update
processing may feel slow because of timeout handling on information
acquisition from such objects.

To make the operating environment more comfortable, it is recommended that

you create a custom system configuration file with optimum number of HVMs
to be displayed at a time in lists and diagrams (see “Selecting Specific HVMs
Subject to Display”). It is also recommended that you review the content of
System Configuration tree view on Profile tab, and delete objects unlikely
to be processed by HVM Navigator from registration, in particular those
objects which are continuously powered-off or not existing.

4-2 Notes on usage

Hitachi Compute Blade HVM Navigator User's Guide – Viewer

When window opening is slow
As the number of handled HVMs increases, more time is required to open a list
window or a diagram window. Such time can be optimized if you create a
custom system configuration file with optimum number of HVMs to be
displayed at a time in lists and diagrams (see “Selecting Specific HVMs Subject
to Display”).

The following table shows approximate time estimated for opening a list view
(from Viewer tab on the “Main” window or from a diagram window), opening
a diagram view (from Viewer tab on the “Main” window), and exporting all
configuration data to a CSV file (from a list window).

Table 4-1 Estimated time for Display and Export by Number of HVMs

10 3 3 1
20 5 5 1
30 8 8 1
40 10 9 1
100 25 22 2
200 55 45 9
256 75 58 13

When displayed HVM/LPAR configuration differs from

actual configuration
Current configuration information might not be obtained. In this case, please
execute an Update operation again. (See “Updating Configuration
Information”)

When HVM registered on Profile tab is missing on Viewer

tab
When an HVM registered on Profile tab is missing in a tree view on Viewer
tab, it is likely that the subject HVM is not usable by Viewer functions. Confirm
applicable HVM version according to "Operating Conditions" of Hitachi
Compute Blade HVM Navigator User’s Guide - Getting Started.

Troubleshooting
This chapter describes the troubleshooting of HVM and HVM Navigator.
 When registered HVM information is not displayed

Troubleshooting 5-1

Hitachi Compute Blade HVM Navigator User's Guide – Viewer

When registered HVM information is not displayed
Event

When update processing is in progress (Update button) or has been cancelled

(Update Cancel button), System Configuration tree view on Viewer tab
might not been displayed registered HVM information.

Solution

Wait a while, click a different tab (Profile, LPAR Configuration, Monitoring,

Migration or F/W Update), and then click Viewer tab.

This Event occurs when many objects are registered to HVM Navigator or
when the management server running HVM Navigator is operating under a
heavy load. To make the operating environment more comfortable, it is
recommended that you review the content of System Configuration tree
view on Profile tab, and delete objects unlikely to be processed by HVM
Navigator from registration, in particular those objects which are continuously
powered-off or not existing.
