WELLNESS PROJECT
Method Statement– Pergolas & Shaded Structures
Revision # C1 Date of issue Nov 09, 2023
1) SCOPE OF WORK
The procedure shall apply to all kinds of concrete, Timber, Metal works for installation of Pergolas & Shaded
Structures. RIL shall implement this procedure to ensure that activities done as per specs. The work covered
by this specification shall consist of furnishing all labor, materials, permits, and related work necessary to
complete the work.
2) METHODOLOGY
Handling, storage, preservation and protection will be carried out as per project specification.
All small components like bolts, nuts, washers, etc. will be stored in containers and in a dry
place.
The threaded portion of anchor bolts will be kept clean and protected from damage.
Carry out a detailed site survey to mark the layout of the timber structure.
Mark positions for footings or posts on the ground.
2.2.2 Site Clearing:
Mechanical Anchors:
1. Drill holes into concrete substrate perpendicular to the surface and at specified locations
and
spacing using carbide-tipped drill bits complying with ANSI 212.15 to depths appropriate
for
specified anchors.
2. Clear hole of dust and debris using oil-free compressed air.
3. Install anchors to specified embedment following recommendations provided by bolt
manufacturer including setting bolts with specified torque.
Epoxy-Bonded Anchors:
1. Drill holes into concrete substrate perpendicular to the surface and at specified locations
and spacing using an electro-pneumatic hammer drill set in rotation-hammer mode and
carbide-tipped drill bits complying with ANSI B212.15 to depths appropriate for specified
anchors.
2. Clear holes of dust and debris using oil-free compressed air, brushing with a wire brush
two times and again blowing with compressed air. Holes must not contain any water at
the time of anchor installation.
3. Inject adhesive into holes using the manufacturer’s foil pack dispenser and injection
nozzle, filling the holes approximately two-thirds full with mixed adhesive after discarding
the first three or four “trigger-pulls” of adhesive from a new cartridge.
4. Install the anchors by twisting clockwise while inserting the anchor into the hole to the
required embedment depth.
5. Do not disturb anchor during the specified cure time.
Minor Cutting timber beams, rafters, and other parts to the adjust the required size as per the
design drawings.
Pre-fabricate certain elements (if possible) off-site to minimize on-site work.
Install horizontal beams connecting the posts, ensuring they are securely fixed using bolts or
screws.
Install roof rafters or shade slats at the required intervals. Maintain consistent spacing between
the rafters/slats for uniformity.
Apply paint, varnish, or stain to the structure as per the design specifications.
Ensure even application and allow the finish to dry completely between coats.

2.5 Aluminum & Stain steel Structure Works:
2.5.1 Assembly of Structure:
Installation of Columns/Posts:
Fix the vertical aluminum or stain steel posts onto the concrete foundations using stainless
steel bolts and nuts.
Ensure posts are plumb and aligned properly.
Beam Installation:
Install the horizontal aluminum or stain steel beams (main and cross beams) between the
posts. Attach them using brackets, bolts, or welding (depending on design).
Verify the beams are level and correctly spaced.
Cross Members/Rafters:
Place the rafters or additional cross members on top of the beams, ensuring equal spacing.
Secure them with brackets and bolts.
Once all parts are in place, ensure that all nuts, bolts, and joints are tightened securely using
appropriate torque values.
Conduct a final inspection to ensure the entire structure is stable and secure.
2.5.4 Cleaning:
Clean the pergola and shade structure, removing any dust, dirt, or debris from the
installation.
Any damage to stainless steel elements caused during handling and installation, or by
subsequent site operations, is to be rectified immediately. Obtain approval before commencing
extensive repairs or replacements.
Replace components with damage considered unacceptable for repair.
B. Maintenance
After removal of protective coverings, clean and maintain all stainless steel surfaces at regular
intervals until Practical Completion.
All maintenance is to be in accordance with procedures detailed in the powder coating
manufacturer’s technical literature and the guarantee.
At practical completion, maintenance details must be passed on to the Engineer to enable the
Employer to set up a maintenance contract.
Maintenance records should be kept until the end of the guarantee period.
