What I Know
Let us determine how much you already know about Installation of Electrical
Metallic/Non-Metallic Conduit by answering the questions below.
II. True or False: Write TRUE if the statement is correct and FALSE if the
stamen is wrong. Write the answer in your notebook.
_____ 1. Rigid steel conduit, or RSC, is heavy-duty galvanized steel tubing that
is installed with threaded fittings.
_____ 2.Liquid-tight flexible metal conduit (LFMC) is a non-special type of
flexible metal conduit that has a plastic coating and is used with
sealed fittings to make it watertight.
_____ 3. Flexible metal conduit (FMC) is also called "Greenfield," after the name
of its inventor. It has a spiral construction that makes it flexible so it
can snake through walls and other structures.
_____ 4.Electrical non-metallic tubing (ENT) is flexible corrugated plastic
tubing that is not moisture-resistant and flame-retardant.
_____ 5. Rigid polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is similar to plastic plumbing pipe and
is installed with plastic fittings that are glued in place. It can be bent

after being heated in a portable heater box.
Note: If you get 100% correct in this pre- assessment, skip the lesson but if not
and only get 50% to 99% correct, then proceed with the lesson.
Lesson
1 Electrical Conduit
What’s In
What are the things to be considered before installing these types of conduit?
What’s New
You are working as an electrician in a construction firm. You are task to install
conduit in a dump location.
3
What is It
ELECTRICAL CONDUIT
(Because IMC is lighter and easier to work with than RSC, it is more common in new
construction.)
4
(Because the conduit tubing and fittings are glued together, the conduit assemblies
can be watertight, making PVC suitable for direct burial in the ground for many
applications. It is also allowed in corrosive environments.)
(Standard FMC is used in dry indoor locations, often for short runs between a wall
box)
5
• Liquid-tight flexible metal conduit (LFMC) is a special type of flexible metal
conduit that has a plastic coating and is used with sealed fittings to make it
watertight.
(It is commonly used with outdoor equipment, such as air conditioner units.)
7. Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT)
(EMT is installed with couplings and fittings that are secured with setscrew or
compression-type fasteners. The tubing itself is not threaded as is RMC. Common
sizes of EMT include 1/2-inch, 3/4-inch, and 1-inch.)

Assessment
Identify the following draft pattern. Write your answer on your notebook.
________1. It is most commonly made of galvanized steel but can also be
aluminum.
________2. It is typically used outdoors to provide protection from damage and
can also provide structural support for electrical cables, panels,
and other equipment.
________3. It is used in dry indoor locations, often for short runs between a
wall box.
________4. It is easy to bend and installs with snap-lock or glued plastic
fittings.
________5. It is lighter and easier to work with than RSC, it is more common
in new construction.
