Part A : Micro project proposal

6. Title : Compare power consumption of

(Fluorescent and LED) Lighting .
1.0) Aims/Benefits of the micro-project :-
1.Determine energy conservation in new lamp and old lamp .

2. To consumption energy in fluorescent lamp and LED.

3. For getting knowledge about fluorescent lamp and LED.

2.0) Course Outcomes Addressed :-

a) Interpret energy conservation policies in India.

b) Implement energy conservation techniques in electrical
machines.
c) Apply energy conservation techniques in electrical
installations.

3.0) Proposed Methodology :-

1)We discuss about group of five students for Micro-Project .

2)Then we form a group of five students.

3)Then we discuss about micro project topic.

4) Later we select 3 topic for micro project.

5) We select one topic for micro project.(i.e. Compare power consumption

of (Fluorescent and LED) lighting

6) We collect information about basic material for micro project 7) We collect

information about market survey.

8) We collect information about chock coil

9) We find the required component in local market

10) We collect specifications of electronic starter

11) We collect some required circuit in local market also few circuit not found in
Market
12) Then the remaining material we can search on web browser and google chrome

13) We after that discuss with team members and order the components on online
shops

14) We can cross check the deliver material .

15) Defective material replace and reorder the new material

16) We can start the work on plywood

17) Make the tower by using wooden stick

18) Make the connection in all part and check the circuitry 19) Then prepare a report

in the given format.

20) Submitted microproject.

1. Energy Efficiency
Fluorescent Lighting: Fluorescent tubes typically operate at 50-100
lumens per watt (lm/W). For example, a 32-watt fluorescent tube
(T8) provides around 2,500 to 3,000 lumens.
LED Lighting: LEDs are much more efficient, typically achieving 70-
150 lumens per watt. A 15-watt LED tube can produce 2,200-2,500
lumens, providing equivalent light output to a 32-watt fluorescent.
Reference: U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). “Energy Efficiency and
LED Lighting” DOE Report on Lighting Technology.
2. Lifespan
Fluorescent Lighting: Fluorescent lights have a typical lifespan of
7,000 to 15,000 hours.
LED Lighting: LEDs have a significantly longer lifespan, lasting
25,000 to 50,000 hours or more.
Reference: Lighting Research Center, Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute. “Comparing the Lifetime of LED and Fluorescent Lamps”
LRC Study.
Fluorescent Lighting: A standard 32W T8 fluorescent lamp uses
about 32 watts of power for 2,500 lumens.
3. Power Consumption
LED Lighting: A comparable 15W LED tube provides the same light
output (2,500 lumens) but uses only 15 watts of power.
Reference: U.S. Department of Energy. “Comparing Lighting
Efficiency and Power Use” DOE Solid-State Lighting Program.
4. Cost Savings
Fluorescent Lighting: Though cheaper upfront, fluorescent lights
consume more energy, and their shorter lifespan means more
frequent replacement.
LED Lighting: While initially more expensive, LEDs offer significant
savings in power consumption and require fewer replacements,
making them more cost-effective over time.
Reference: International Energy Agency (IEA), “Cost-Effective
Lighting Solutions: LEDs vs. Fluorescent” IEA Report.

Conclusion:
LED lighting is far more efficient than fluorescent lighting, reducing
power consumption by nearly half while offering significantly longer
lifespans.
