THEFT DETERRENT / KEYLESS ENTRY: ENGINE IMMOBILISER SYSTEM: B2799: Engine Immobiliser System Malfunction
B2799 - Engine Immobiliser System Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

This DTC is stored when one of the following occurs: 1) the ECM detects errors in its own communications with the ID code box (immobiliser code
ECU); 2) the ECM detects errors in the communication lines; or 3) the ECU communication ID between the ID code box (immobiliser code ECU)
and ECM is different and an engine start is attempted.

Before troubleshooting for this DTC, make sure no certification ECU DTCs are output. If output, troubleshoot the certification ECU DTCs first.

PROCEDURE

1. CLEAR DTC

(a) Clear the DTCs See: Accessories and Optional Equipment/Antitheft and Alarm Systems/Testing and Inspection/Reading and
Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes/Engine Immobiliser System.

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK FOR DTC

(a) Check for DTCs See: Accessories and Optional Equipment/Antitheft and Alarm Systems/Testing and Inspection/Reading and
Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes/Engine Immobiliser System.

OK:

DTC B2799 is not output.

NG -- REREGISTER ECU CODE

OK -- USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK See: Accessories and Optional Equipment/Antitheft and Alarm

3. REREGISTER ECU CODE

(a) Reregister the recognition codes in the ECUs See: Accessories and Optional Equipment/Antitheft and Alarm Systems/Testing and
Inspection/Programming and Relearning/Engine Immobilizer System.

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

4. CLEAR DTC

(a) Clear the DTCs See: Accessories and Optional Equipment/Antitheft and Alarm Systems/Testing and Inspection/Reading and
Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes/Engine Immobiliser System.

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

5. CHECK FOR DTC

(a) Check for DTCs See: Accessories and Optional Equipment/Antitheft and Alarm Systems/Testing and Inspection/Reading and
Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes/Engine Immobiliser System.

OK:

DTC B2799 is not output.

NG -- CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTOR

OK -- END (RECOGNITION CODE IN ECU IS DEFECTIVE)

6. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTOR

(a) Turn the engine switch off.

(b) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the ECM and the ID code box (immobiliser code ECU).

OK:

Connectors are properly connected.

NG -- CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY


OK -- Continue to next step.

7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ID CODE BOX - ECM)

(a) Disconnect the E28 box connector.

(b) Disconnect the A38 ECM connector.

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR


OK -- Continue to next step.

8. REPLACE ECM

(a) Temporarily replace the ECM with a new one See: Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Engine Control
Module/Service and Repair/Removal.

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

9. REGISTER ECU CODE

(a) Register the recognition codes in the ECUs See: Accessories and Optional Equipment/Antitheft and Alarm Systems/Testing and
Inspection/Programming and Relearning/Engine Immobilizer System.

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

10. CLEAR DTC

(a) Clear the DTCs See: Accessories and Optional Equipment/Antitheft and Alarm Systems/Testing and Inspection/Reading and
Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes/Engine Immobiliser System.

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

11. CHECK FOR DTC

(a) Check for DTCs See: Accessories and Optional Equipment/Antitheft and Alarm Systems/Testing and Inspection/Reading and
Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes/Engine Immobiliser System.

OK:

DTC B2799 is not output.

NG -- REPLACE ID CODE BOX (IMMOBILISER CODE ECU) See: Accessories and Optional Equipment/Antenna/Keyless
Start Antenna/Service and Repair/Removal

OK -- END (ECM IS DEFECTIVE)
