Histogram

2004-20.
In Figure 5, the histogram is representing the ages of the people who attended a meeting.

Calculate the number of people who were between 20 and 40 years old at the meeting. (3 marks)

2003-15.
Table 2 shows the distribution of the number of employees in 43 factories in a town.
Table 2
Number of Employees 0-39 40-59 60-79 80-99
Number of Factories 5 15 13 10

Draw a histogram. (4 marks)

Frequency polygon

2010-11.
The results of a test marked out of 25 written by 20 learners were as follows:

1 7 1 12 1
3 4
12 18 1 19 1
7 7
17 19 2 23 2
2 4
22 22 2 23 2
4 2

Using class intervals of 1−5 , 6−10 ,11−15 , ⋯ , construct a frequency table for the results. (3
marks)

3 Statistics - Questions
2009-19.
Table 2 shows midpoints of marks scored by a group of 50 pupils in a test.
Table2
Midpoint mark 1 13 1 15 1 17 18 1
2 4 6 9
Number of pupils 2 3 6 12 1 8 6 3

Using a scale of 2 cm to represent 1 unit on the horizontal axis and 2 cm to represent 2 units on the
vertical axis, draw a frequency polygon to represent this information. (5 marks)

Mean of data

2011-7.
The mean of is . Find the value of x. (5 marks)
( x−1 ) , ( x+2 )∧(x +5) 2x

2007-22.
Three data values x, y and z have the following relationship:
2
x=a −a
y=2−a
2
z=7+ 5 a−a
Calculate the mean of x, y and z in terms of a in its simplest form. (3 marks)

2006-7.
Table 1 shows marks that student A and student B got from tests. Student A sat for 5 tests while
student B sat for 4 tests. Student B has mark x missing.
Table 1
STUDENT 5 7 8 3 6
A 5 0 0 0 5
STUDENT 6 6 x 5
B 7 0 3

Given that the mean mark of student A is the same as the mean mark of student B, calculate the
value of x.
(5 marks)

Variance

2005-16.
The table below shows ages of 5 pupils with the mean age of 12.6 years.

Age Deviation Square of
