FUTURE PERFECT SIMPLE

1. Form of the future perfect simple

Will + have + past participle

Remember past participles from the notes on the present perfect.

Affirmative Negative Interrogative


I will/ I’ll have finished. I will not/ I won’t have Will I have finished?
finished.
You will have finished. You will not have finished. Will you have finished? ->
Yes, I will./ No, I won’t.
He/ She/ It will have finished. He/ She/ It will not have Will she/ he/ it have finished?

Note

Will = ‘ll for all the subject pronouns

2. Usage of the future perfect simple

- The future perfect simple shows an event that will be finished before a specific time in
the future, that is to say, this tense refers to completed actions at a certain time in the
future. It is usually accompanied by the preposition by.

Examples

- By the end of this weekend, I will have revised my lessons.


- By the time his wife arrives home, he will have prepared dinner.
- I won't have finished this task by the end of June.
- Will you have finished your homework by the time I arrive home?

FUTURE CONTINUOUS

1. Form of the future continuous

Will + be + verb -ing

Affirmative Negative Interrogative


I will/ I’ll be watching TV. I will not/ I won’t be watching Will I be watching TV?

2. Usage of the future continuous

- The future continuous is used to indicate an action that will be taking place at some
point in the future, that is to say, it is used for actions in progress in the future.

Examples

- I will be refereeing a football match next Sunday afternoon.


- We will be working on our project tomorrow morning.
- When you arrive home, I won’t be sleeping.
- Will you be leaving in a few minutes?
