Platform Selection: For powerful processing within a small
footprint, embedded platforms like the NVIDIA Jetson Nano or Jetson Xavier NX are ideal, as they offer hardware-accelerated processing. Alternatively, a Raspberry Pi 4 coupled with a Google Coral USB Accelerator enhances computational capabilities, enabling deep learning inference on the edge. Software Environment: Using an Ubuntu-based OS with NVIDIA’s JetPack SDK (for Jetson platforms) includes essential libraries like CUDA and TensorRT, allowing efficient, real-time deep learning inference. These tools streamline the model deployment process, enhancing speed and accuracy in resource-constrained environments. Camera:
Specifications: The use of a 1080p HD camera provides high-
resolution imaging, which is crucial for accurate detection in scenarios requiring detailed object information. Placement: The camera must be securely mounted and aligned to ensure maximum coverage and stable framing. This helps avoid distortions and inconsistencies that may impact model performance. Additional Sensors:
Motion Sensors: PIR or ultrasonic sensors detect movement, which
activates the system to perform recognition only when needed, conserving energy and resources. Environmental Sensors: Incorporating sensors for temperature or humidity provides robust monitoring, particularly beneficial in dynamic outdoor conditions where environmental factors may affect object appearance. Model Choice:
MobileNet: Known for low latency and optimized size, MobileNet is
designed for real-time applications and performs well even on less powerful devices. Tiny YOLO: Tiny YOLO balances efficiency and accuracy, capable of detecting multiple objects within each frame, making it suitable for complex environments with high activity. Data Preparation and Augmentation: Dataset Selection: Select a pre-trained dataset (like COCO or PASCAL VOC) and supplement with domain-specific images to ensure high accuracy in the intended environment. Augmentation Techniques: Implementing techniques such as cropping, brightness and contrast adjustments, rotations, and simulated occlusions improves the model’s ability to generalize across diverse scenarios.
