Very good class. I showed you these economic

activities because today, we are going to study the
Ideological Bases of economic systems in the
Modern Era.

These economic activities form the foundation of

each economic system that we are going to study
today.

Lesson Proper

First, let us define economic systems. Can you

please read what the economic system is?

Economic systems refer to the organized manner

by which a society allocates scarce resources to
meet its people’s economic wants. Water resources, land

scarce resources in the Philippines?

Good job. All your provided answers are correct.

Now let us proceed to the first ideological bases of
economic systems. Students will read the
definition on the power
Capitalism point.

What comes into your mind when we say

Capitalism?

Capitalism embodies the ideals of the market

Who among you have heard of Laissez Faire?
This term simply means the government does not
interfere in the market.

In capitalism, prices and wages are determined by

competition and supply and demand—meaning the
more people want something, the more it might
cost. The government usually has a limited role,
allowing businesses and individuals to make most
economic decisions. Ma’am, USA. Canada,

definition on the power

Kindly read what socialism is.

Socialism advocates for state ownership of

resources and means of production but favors a
democratic means of instituting economic reforms.

Instead of focusing on profit for individuals,

socialism aims to make sure that everyone has
what they need, like healthcare, education, and
housing. The idea is to share resources and wealth

What comes into your mind when you hear the

Yes, that is correct. Communism is the total
opposite of capitalism. Can you read for me the
definition of communism?

Communism is a system where everyone shares

everything equally. The government or community
owns things like land, factories, and businesses
instead of private people. The idea is that no one is
rich or poor because we all share resources. People
work as much as they can and get what they need.
There is no private property, and the government China, Cuba, Vietnam,

Can you please read what fascism is?

Fascism favors an authoritarian type of government

that knows how to work with and exploit the

and socialism. Can you give me a scenario where
this is possible?
