Topic: Subtraction (1 digit)
Objective: Students will be able to Understand the concept of subtraction as "taking away” Solve basic subtraction problems using objects. Do subtraction sums. Recognize and use basic signs, minus - and equal -. Material Needed: 10 small objects (blocks, toys and caps etc.) Prop of and signs – and =. Notebooks Duration: 3 periods, (30 minutes) each Lesson outline Motivation :( Music and movement) Students will sing and act on poem Five little animals jumping on bed One fell off and and bumped his head 2.3.4. and more along with teacher and engage in the concept of taking away or subtract. Introduction and teaching: Began by explaining Subtraction in simple language. Subtraction is when we take away something, and we see how many left. Activity: Use 5 blocks, place them infront of students. Take away 2 blocks. Ask how many left? Continue with several examples. Interactive activity: (Engagement-Group learning- Self-discovery) Practice Subtraction using objects. Make groups of students and gives each 10 small objects. Call out simple subtraction problems. e.g. You have 10 blocks, take away 2. How many left? Encourage students to solve the problem using the objects. Written work: Students will do notebook work page no 48-49. They will be appreciated for good work. Activity time: Students will do activity of Subtraction with subtraction cards and objects. (like blocks, caps and balls) Wrap-up and review: Review one or two and more subtraction problem on the board, asking students to solve them. Appreciate students for their efforts and remind them how subtraction is taking away." Home work: Do notebook page no 53. Ask students to do activity of subtraction problem with toys at home. Lesson plan Topic: Addition (1 digit +) Objective: Recognize the concept of Addition. Understand that addition means combining two or more numbers. Able to use basic addition sign plus + and equal = Material Needed: Counting objects (blocks-caps etc.) Notebooks and Pencils Duration: 60 minutes Lesson outline Introduction and teaching: Gather students in a circle sitting on the floor. Introduce the concept of addition using real life examples (e.g." If I have 2 colors and my friend gives me 1 more, how many colors do I have now? Teaching Addition: Use number cards to demonstrate addition. (e.g. (2+1=3)) Explain them what is addition? Combining two or more numbers together Implement it by doing counting block in front of them. Pick a number card 3, build a tower with 3 blocks. Then tell them to pick up any number card and adds more blocks to the tower (eg.2) Now count the total number of block together. Interactive activity: Place some colours in a ring ask everyone to pick few one or more, how much they want colours from ring, then tell them to make a pair with one of your friend and add your and colours and your friend colours together. Now ask them: How many colours do you have?=4. How many your partner have?=+2 How many altogether? = 6. Written work: Students will do notebook work page no 41. They will be appreciated for good work. They will add numbers in notebooks. Activity time: Students will do Addition box activity to improve more understanding power and strengthen concept. Students will also do the activity of addition using pencil colours and chalk. Wrap-up and review: Gather students in a circle and ask them about key points of Addition.
