1. Stand in front of a mirror with your arms at your sides and visually
inspect your breasts. Look for any changes in size, shape, or contour,
as well as any skin dimpling, puckering, or redness.
2. Raise your arms above your head and observe your breasts in the
mirror again, paying attention to the same signs of changes.
3. While still in front of the mirror, gently squeeze each nipple to check
for any discharge.
4. Lie down on your back with a pillow under your right shoulder and your
right arm behind your head. Use your left hand to feel your right breast
in small circular motions, starting from the outer perimeter and
working toward the nipple. Make sure to cover the entire breast area,
including the armpit.
5. Repeat the circular motion pattern on your left breast using your right
hand.
6. Finally, stand or sit upright and repeat step 4 and 5 while feeling your
breasts in a vertical pattern, moving from top to bottom and side to
side.
Regular breast self-exams, ideally once a month, can aid in the early
detection of breast lumps and contribute to better outcomes in breast health
management.
