The line graph compares the quantity of fast food consumed by Australian teenagers across three

different types over a 25-year period.

It is clear that young people spent the most money on hamburgers annually compared to other food
items. In terms of consumption among teenagers, the amount of fish and chips consumed declined
while the consumption of pizza and hamburgers increased over the given period.

In 1975, fish and chips were the most popular junk food in Australia, being eaten approximately 100
times per year, while adolescents consumed pizza and hamburgers just under 20 times a year. After a
brief decline in 1980, the consumption of fish and chips rose again. However, from 1985, there was a
consistent decrease in the consumption of fish and chips, ultimately reaching approximately 40 times
per year by 2000.

Between 1975 and 2000, teenagers ate the two types of fast food at much higher levels. The
consumption of pizza increased significant, overtaking fish and chips consumption and the levelled off
from 1995 to 2000. The most dramatic increase in junk food consumption was seen in hamburgers,
which rose considerably throughout the 1980s and 1990s. It ended at the same level at which fish and
chips began, with an annual consumption of 100 times.
