Worksheet 6A: Adapt a story

The Enormous Turnip
The old farmer’s wife planted some turnip seeds. They grew lovely and big, but one
turnip continued growing. It became enormous!
‘What a lovely big turnip! I want it for dinner,’ said the old woman. She pulled and
she pulled, but she couldn’t pull it up. ‘I need some help,’ she said, wiping her brow.
So she called the old farmer. They pulled and they pulled, but they couldn’t pull it up.
‘We need some help,’ said the old farmer, huffing and puffing.
So they called the young farm boy. They pulled and they pulled, but they couldn’t pull it up.
‘We need some help!’ exclaimed the young farm boy.
So they called the donkey.

Complete the dialogue in script form. You can add to what is already in the story.

I want that turnip for dinner. (Wiping her brow and looking tired)

The old farmer: (huffing and puffing)

The young farm boy: (looking surprised)

The donkey: (unwillingly trots over to help)
