1.Target Mean Strength of Concrete

For tolerence factor of 1.65 Ref : IS:10262-2019

Target Mean Strength = fck + 1.65xs Where fck = Characteristic Compressive Strength
= 30 + 1.65 x 5 s = Standard Deviation ( Ref Table 2 of IS:10262 - 2019 )
2
= 38.25 N/mm

or
Target Mean Strength = fck + X Where fck = Characteristic Compressive Strength
= 30 + 6.5 X = Standard Deviation ( Ref Table 1 of IS:10262 - 2019 )
2
= 36.50 N/mm
The Higher value is to be adopted . Therefore, target strength will be 38.25 N/mm2 as 38.25 N/mm2 > 36.50 N/mm2
Detailed calculations for M30 Grade concrete:
2. Approximate Air Content.

From Table 3, of IS 10262:2019, the approximate amount of entrapped air to be expected in normal (non-air-entrained) concrete is 1.0 percent
for 20 mm nominal maximum size of aggregate

3. Selection Of Water - Cement Ratio.

From Table 5 of IS:456-2000, Maximum Water - Cement Ratio = 0.50

Based on experience,adopt water-cement ratio 0.39
0.39 <0.5 Hence O.K

4. Selection of Water - Content

From Table 4 of IS:10262-2019 Maximum Water Content for 20mm Coarse Aggregate. ( for 25 to 50 mm slump range ) 186 Litre
(increaseby about 3 percent for every additional 25mm slump) (Ref: IS: 10262-2019, CL 6.2.4 )
Water content increased by lab trial ( % ) 15 Taking initial slump ( mm ) 175
Required Additional Water for ( 150±25 mm ) slump. = 27.9 Litre
Estimated Water Content for (150±25 mm) slump at site. = 213.9 Litre

Based on trial with Admixture water content reduction of 21.51% has been achived.Hence the arrived water content = 168 Litre

5.Calculation of Cement Content :

Water - Cement Ratio = 0.39

Cement content = 430 kg

From Table 5 of IS 456-2000 ,Minimum Cement Content for "MODERATE"exposure condition is 300 kg/cum
430 kg/m3 > 300 kg/m3 , Hence O.K
3
Cement ( PPC ) = 430 kg/m

6.Proportion of Volume of Coarse Aggregate and Fine Aggregate Content.

From Table 3, volume of coarse aggregate corresponding to 20mm size aggregate and fine aggregate ( Zone II )
for water - cement ratio of 0.5 = 0.620

In the present case Water - Cement ratio is 0.39.Therefore,volume of coarse aggregate is required to be increased
to decrease the fine aggregate content. As the Water - Cement ratio is lower by 0.11 , the proportion of volume of
coarse aggregate is increased by = 0.022
Therefore, Corrected proportion of volume of Coarse Aggregate for the Water - Cement Ratio of 0.39 = 0.642
( Note - Incase the C.A is not angular one, then also volume of coarse aggregate may be required to be increased suitably, based on experience. )

For Pumpable concrete these value should be reduced by 10 percent.( IS:10262-2019, CL 5.5.2 )
Therefore, volume of coarse aggregate ( Vca ) = 0.5778
Volume of fine aggregate content ( Vfa ) = 0.4222

7.Design Mix Calculations ( Ref. IS: 10262 - 2019 )

Absolute volume of
Volume of Entrapped air in wet concrete = 0.0100 cum
Cement PPC [ 430/ 2.95 ] X ( 1 / 1000 ) = 0.1459 cum
Water [ 168/ 1.0 ] x ( 1 / 1000 ) = 0.1679 cum
Admixture ADMYX HI BLEND [ 3.87/ 1.1 ] x ( 1 / 1000 ) = 0.0035 cum
Absolute volume of Cement + Water + Admixture = 0.3273 cum

Volume occupied by all in aggregate ( e ) [ 1 - 0.3273] = 0.6727 cum

Mass of Coarse Aggregate 1 ( e x Vca x Sca x 1000 x 0.55 ) = 609 kg

Mass of Coarse Aggregate 2 ( e x Vca x Sca x 1000 x 0.45 ) = 495 kg
Mass of Fine Aggregate ( e x Vfa x Sfa x 1000 ) = 736 kg

NOTE:-1. Aggregate should be used in saturated surface dry condition. If otherwise, when computing the requirement of mixing water, allowance shall be made for the free ( surface )
moisture contributed by the fine and coarse aggregates. On the other hand ,if the aggregate age dry,the amount of mixing water should be increased by an amount equal to the
moisture likely to be absorbed by the aggregate.Necessary adjustment s are also required to be made in mass of aggregates. The surface water and percent water absorption of
aggregates shall be determined according to IS:2386.
2. Based on weather condition admixture dosage may vary ±0.1 TO 0.25%
