Research Objectives

This study determined the efficiency of Polystyrene and Polypropylene

as insulating materials in five common food containers.

1. Is there a significant difference in the efficiency of Polystyrene and

Polypropylene as insulating materials in foods packaged in plastic

containers and in paper containers?

2. Is there a significant relationship between the efficiency of using

Polystyrene and Polypropylene insulating materials and the safety

of foods for eating?

3. Is there a significant relationship between efficiency of using

Polystyrene and Polypropylene as insulating materials and the

following factors:

3.1 time period of storage of food; and

3.2 manner of storage of food?

Hypotheses

The null hypotheses tested in this study are:

1. There is no significant difference in the efficiency of Polystyrene
and Polypropylene as insulating materials in foods packaged in
plastic containers and in paper containers.

2. There is no significant relationship between the efficiency of using

Polystyrene and Polypropylene insulating materials and the safety

of foods for eating.

3. There is no significant relationship between efficiency of using

Polystyrene and Polypropylene as insulating materials and the

following factors:

3.1 time period of storage of food; and

3.2 manner of storage of food.

Results

The study revealed the following findings:

1. The use of Polystyrene and Polypropylene was more efficient in

plastic containers than in paper containers when used as insulating

materials for food packaging.

2. There was a significant relationship between the use of Polystyrene

and Polypropylene as insulating materials and the safety of foods for

eating in plastic food containers.

3. The time period of storage of food had significant relationship with

the efficiency of using Polystyrene and Polypropylene as insulating

materials for food storages.

4. The manner of storage of food had no significant relationship with the

efficiency of using Polystyrene and Polypropylene as insulating

materials for food storages.
