Wellness
Is the act of consistently practicing healthy habits to achieve better health. Maintaining an
optimal level of wellness is utterly essential to a better quality of life. Wellness strongly
influences our behavior and emotions hence it often linked to a high level of disciplined and
self-control.
Dimensions of wellness
❏ Emotional Wellness- this dimension is about understanding your feelings, coping with your
stress effectively
❏ Environmental wellness- this dimension helps us to live in harmony with our surroundings
❏ Financial Wellness- this relates to the process of learning how to handle your financial expenses
effectively
❏ Intellectual Wellness- this involves keeping an open mind as you come across new ideas and
improving your knowledge further
❏ Physical Wellness- this relates to keeping a safe body and finding treatment when appropriate
❏ Sexual wellness- this applies to the individual’s active involvement in his or her life from the
various issues surrounding sexual health
❏ Social Wellness- this enables you to build healthy, nurturing, and supportive relationships as
well as fostering a genuine connection with those around you.
Fitness
Refers to your body systems’ capacity to function effectively together to allow you to be
healthy and perform daily activities.
Physically fit means completing everyday tasks with the minimum possible effort.
Health- Related Fitness Components (HRF) -associate for the individual to stay physical
healthy
1. Cardiovascular Fitness - ability for the heart to elevated while doing hard tasked
2. Muscular strength- is the ability of the muscle system to exert powerful force
3. Muscular endurance- the ability of the muscular system to sustain high level of work in a long
period of time
4. Flexibility- the ability of bone joints and muscles to bend or flex with less effort and without the
existence of injuries
5. Body Composition- is the percentage of a body's weight that is fat tissue
❖ Skill- Related Fitness (SRF) - are movements that are necessary for an individual to successfully
demonstrate a variety of motor skills and movement patterns. It is more about strengthening
various skills rather than improving your overall physical health.
1. Agility- is your ability to move your body quickly and easily. This also includes your ability to
change directions and still maintain your balance.
2. Speed- Speed is your ability to move fast and perform a certain movement in a short amount of
time.
3. Balance- means being able to maintain your center of gravity when moving or standing still.
4. Coordination- ability to pull off multiple maneuvers at once. This includes hand-eye
coordination, or the ability to do activities that require you to use your hands and eyes simultaneous
5. Reaction Time- Your reaction time is the amount of time it takes for your body to recognize an
outside stimulus and react to it through some kind of movement.
6. Power- This is the amount of force your body is able to exert when you perform a certain
movement.
Physical Fitness Test (PFT)
are series of tests that measures and monitors students' physical fitness level. The series
of tests assess the five components of physical fitness that make up total fitness:
cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body
composition.
