I. TRAINING/ PROGRAM TITLE

Mastering the Craft: An Intensive School-Based Journalism Training Program
for Teachers and Students.
II. BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE
In today’s information -rich society, the ability to critically evaluate and
produce media is crucial. School-based journalism training provides a unique
opportunity for the students to engage with their community, develop critical
thinking skills , and practice effective communication. Despite these benefits
many schools lack formal programs and training that would allow teachers and
students to fully harness the potential of journalism.
Here are the justifications for the training program:
1. Skill Development: Journalism Training enhances students’ writing , research
and critical thinking skills. It encourages them to ask questions, seek accurate
information, and present it in coherent and engaging manner.
2. Media Literacy Improvement : By focusing on journalism, the training enhances
medial literacy, enabling participants to critically analyze
3. Student Voice and Engagement: Journalism empowers students to share
their perspectives and engage with their school community. It provides a platform
for students to address issues, celebrate achievements and contribute to a
positive school culture.
4. Teacher Professional Development : Training teachers in journalism
ensures they are well -prepared to guide students effectively.
5. Community Connection: School-based journalism fosters a stronger
connection between the school and its community. By reporting on school events
and issues, students help build a sense of community and transparency while also
gaining deeper understanding of their environment.

III. DESCRIPTION OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM

This training program is designed to equip students and teachers with
essential journalism skills for engaging school publication. Participants of the
training will explore core principles of journalism, develop writing and multimedia
skills, and learn how to manage and produce a school newspaper. Through hands-
on activities and real-world applications, participants will gain the tools needed to
capture and communicate school news effectively, fostering a vibrant student
