TECHNICAL STANDARD

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
INSTALLATION, MAINTENANCE, AND
OPERATING MANUALS FOR EQUIPMENT 1-3TS

DATE: 01 APR 2003 ENGINEERING SERVICES BY KBR TECHNICAL SERVICES, INC. PAGE 1 OF 3

1. GENERAL

1.1 Scope

1.1.1 This standard lists the topics to be covered in "Installation, Maintenance, and Operating Manuals"
furnished for engineered equipment.

1.1.2 Unless specifically noted as required for a piece of equipment, each topic shall be covered only when
applicable to the equipment for which the manual is being prepared.

1.2 Preprinted Manuals

Preprinted instruction manuals for standard or pre-engineered equipment will be acceptable only if:

a. They were specifically prepared for the equipment covered (i.e., same model, size, arrangement, etc.)

b. They provide adequate information on installation, operation, and maintenance of such equipment.

2. MANUAL TOPICS

1. Table of Contents

2. Introduction

3. Specifications and General Data

a. Nameplate data

b. Design (rated) and normal operating conditions

c. Critical speeds: Centrifugal and rotary compressors; steam, gas, and hydraulic turbines; motors;
expanders, agitators, centrifuges

d. Weights of major components

e. Operating and test curves

1. Characteristic performance

2. Curves to permit calculation of power at non-standard operating conditions (horsepower and

RPM vs. steam pressure, steam temperature, and exhaust pressure): centrifugal
compressors, turbines (all types), expanders, fans, etc.

3. Ring pressure vs. steam consumption and horsepower: steam turbines

4. Composite speed - torque illustrating torque vs. load requirements for critical services; e.g.
compressors, gas turbines, generators, fans

f. Drawings (plan, cross-sectional, outline) showing critical clearance dimensions, location of

connections, removal space for maintenance

g. Utilities (quantities, pressure, temperature, etc.)

h. Catalysts and chemicals: quantities and specifications for initial charge and replacement or make
up rates and recommended intervals

i. Fuel specifications: gas or oil powered

j. Steam/water specification (quality)
