Introduction
In the domain of automotive safety and technology, enhancing nighttime safety remains a critical focus area.
One prominent challenge is mitigating blind spots effectively through innovative solutions such as adjustable
headlamp systems. This report explores an innovative approach to nighttime visibility through a dynamic and
adaptable headlamp system.

Overview

The proposed solution involves the development of an adaptive headlamp system capable of real-time
adjustments based on driver behavior and environmental conditions. This cutting-edge technology aims to
redefine nighttime safety standards by minimizing blind spots and optimizing illumination.

Key Concepts:

The key concept described involves using a gear mechanism and a rotary encoder to link the rotation of the
steering wheel to the rotation of a headlamp rotor. This setup allows for real-time adjustments of the headlamp
direction based on the steering wheel's position, thereby enhancing visibility around curves and corners during
nighttime driving.

1. Gear Mechanism:
A gear is connected to the steering wheel, and another gear is connected to the rotor encoder. This mechanical
linkage ensures that the rotation of the steering wheel is transmitted to the rotary encoder.

2. Rotary Encoder:
The rotary encoder measures the rotational position and speed. In this setup, it's used to detect the angular
displacement caused by the steering wheel's movement.

3. Voltage Measurement:
The rotary encoder likely utilizes voltage measurements to determine the angle of rotation. As the steering
wheel turns, the rotary encoder detects this movement and converts it into a measurable electrical signal.

4. Angle Calculation:
The voltage drop measured by the rotary encoder is converted into an angle of rotation (in degrees or radians).
The formula to convert voltage to an angle depends on the specifications of the rotary encoder and its
calibration.

Technology Stack and Hardware Requirements

Sensor Technologies: Rotary Encoder

The use of a rotary encoder serves as a pivotal component in our adaptive headlamp system. The rotary encoder
plays a crucial role in measuring the rotational movement of the steering wheel, translating this movement into
electrical signals that can be interpreted by the control unit (Arduino). This sensor technology enables real-time
tracking of driver behavior, facilitating dynamic adjustments of the headlamp orientation to optimize visibility
and minimize blind spots during nighttime driving.

Actuators: Servo Motor

The servo motor acts as the mechanism responsible for physically adjusting the orientation of the headlamp
based on the inputs received from the rotary encoder and the control unit (Arduino). By converting electrical
signals into precise mechanical movements, the servo motor allows for smooth and accurate adjustments of the
headlamp's position, ensuring optimal illumination and enhanced safety on the road.

Control Units: Arduino

The Arduino microcontroller serves as the brain of our adaptive headlamp system, orchestrating the interaction
between the rotary encoder, servo motor, and other components. Through programmed instructions and
algorithms, the Arduino processes the input from the rotary encoder, calculates the necessary adjustments based
on driver behavior and environmental conditions, and commands the servo motor to align the headlamp
accordingly. The flexibility and programmability of Arduino make it an ideal choice for real-time control and
adaptation in automotive safety applications.

Hardware Requirements: 3D Printer

In addition to the essential electronic components, the hardware requirements for our project include access to a
3D printer. The 3D printer is instrumental in prototyping and manufacturing custom parts and enclosures
tailored to the specific needs of our adaptive headlamp system. Utilizing 3D printing technology allows for
rapid iteration, customization, and integration of components, facilitating the development and testing phases of
our innovative solution efficiently

Calculations:

Convert Voltage Drop to Angle:

If 1 volt corresponds to 45 degrees of rotation,
we can calculate the angle in degrees based on the voltage per degree.
Angle (in degrees) = ΔV / Voltage per degree
= 2.5 volts / 1 volt per 45 degrees Angle (in degrees)
= 2.5 volts / 1 volt per 45 degrees Therefore, the angle in degrees would be 2.5 x 45
= 112.5 degrees.
This means that the rotary encoder measures a rotation of approximately 112.5 degrees with a 2.5 volts output.

Headlamp Adjustment:
Assuming we want to adjust the headlamp's direction by the same angle but in the opposite direction of the
steering wheel's rotation for better visibility.
Headlamp Adjustment (in degrees) = - Angle (in degrees)
= -112.5 degrees Headlamp Adjustment (in degrees)
= -112.5 degrees":
