DIGITAL INPUTS

-RECEIVING BINARY SIGNALS

TYPES OF DIGITAL INPUTS

-Switces and buttons
Limit switches -are for detecting the presence or absence of an object they are used for stop shit
Push buttons - are for manual stopping like a bitch
Applications
-User interaction- which is basically control panel and manual type shit that uses switches and
buttons

-Proximity
Infared sensors - they detect to a certain range
Magnetic REED switches - they detect but with magnetic fields
Application
-Obstacle detection and avoidance- which use prox sensors to navigate around objects

-Encoders
Rotary Encoders- digital signal which corresponds to a position or rotation of motors
Applications
-Position and speed control- uses encoders to control speed and position of motors

-Photoeletric Sensors
Reflective sensors- they detect a presence of an object by reflecting light off of them
Applications
-Line following robots

-DIGITAL temperature sensors

Thermistors- provide digital signals corresponding to temp changes
Applications
-Environmental Monitoring- Uses tem sensores to make sure robot is safe in the conditions of the
temperature they are in

-Communication Modules
RFID readers- Read digital tags for identification
Bluetooth/ Wi-Fi- receive digital signal for wireless comm and data trans

THINGS TO CONSIDER or diagnose when havo=ing a robots

Debouncing- signal is stable and free from noise. Mechanical switches
Signal conditioning- signal process, amplification or filtering
Power REquiments- robots power supply is ok or the modules and switches are compatible with the
power supply or battery

ANALOG INPUTS
-PROCESS SIGNAL FROM VARIOUS SENSORS, MORE DETAILED INFO ABOUT THE ENVI

TYPES OF ANALOG INPUTS

-Temperature sensors
Thermistors- measure temp changes
Thermocouple- measure wide range of temp
Applications
-Environmetal monitoring- uses temp, gas and light sensors to monitor and respond to envi
changes
-Light sensors
Photocells(LDRs) detect light intensity (light following robots)
Photodiodes- precise light measurement (optical(seeing) comm)
Applications
-Environmetal monitoring- uses temp, gas and light sensors to monitor and respond to envi
changes

-Force and Pressure Sensors

Strain Gauges- Measure Froce by Changing resistance
Piezoelectric sensors- generate voltage when pressure is applied basically touch screens
Application
-Force Feedback- utilizes these to provide tactilefeedback in robbotic grippers

-Position Sensors
Potentiometers- Measure angular position
Linear Variable Differential Transformers (LVDTs)- measure linera displacement with high acc
Applications
-Precision control- Accurate control of robotic arms and joints

-Sound sensors
Microphones- turns sound waves into electric signals
Applications
- Voice recog
-Sound Detection-uses microphones for voice commands andsound based navig

Considerations
Signal conditioning- amplification, filtering, converting the analog signal to digital format to process
Resolution and Accuracy- analog to digital converter (ADC) has sufficient resulotion tocapture the
sensors’ output accurately
Calibration- calibrating sensors to maintain accuracy and reliability
