CHAPTER NUMBER — 5

ARITHEMETIC PROGRESSIONS

KEY CONCEPTS

SECTION-A

MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS:

1. Assertion(A): An Arithmetic Progression is a list of numbers inwhich

each term is obtained by adding a fixed number to the preceding
term.
Reason(R):1,2,3,4,5…… is an infinite Arithmetic Progression.
(a) Both Assertion (A) and Reason (R) are true and Reason (R) isthe
correct explanation of Assertion (A).
(b) Both Assertion (A) and Reason (R) are true but Reason (R) isnot the
correct explanation of Assertion (A).
(c) Assertion (A) is true but Reason (R) is false.
(d) Assertion (A) is false but Reason (R) is true.

2. The 10th term of the AP: 2,7,12,….is

a) -47 b) 47 c) 43 d) -43

3. In an AP, if d= -14, n = 11, an = 0, then a is:

a) -140 b) 0 c) 140 d) -154
SECTION - B

4. In an AP, if first term = - 100 and common difference = 4, then find

its nth term an of the AP.
5. Find the 11th term from the last term(L) of an AP 10,7,4…, -62.
6. Three numbers 2x, 3y and 4x are in AP. Then find the value of (y - x).
7. If 55 is the sum of first 10 terms of an AP with first term 1 then find its last
term.
8. Find the nth term of an A.P. whose sum of n terms is 4n2-n.
9. Is 68 a term of the A.P. 7, 10, 13,…..?
10. If 2x, x+10 and 3x+2 are in A.P then find the value of x.
SECTION-C
11. Which term of the A.P. 3, 15, 27, 39… will be 120 more than its 21st term.
12. Find the number of terms of the A.P. 54, 51, 48, …… So that their sum is
513.

13. Find the sum of the first 51 terms of the A.P. whose 2nd term is 2 and 4th
term is 8.
14. The sum of three numbers of an A.P. is 27 and their product is
405. Find the numbers.
15. Sum of the first 5 terms in an A.P. is 30 and the sum of their
squares is 220. Find its third term.
16. 9th term of an A.P. is 499 and 499th term is 9. Find the term which is
equal to zero.
SECTION-D

17. The angles of a quadrilateral are in A.P. The greatest angle isdouble
the least. Find all four angles.
18. Solve: 1+4+7+10+………… +x = 590.

19. Divide 32 into 4 parts which are in A.P. such that the ratio of the
product of extremes to the product of mean is 7:15.

20. The ratio of the 11th term to the 18th term of an A.P. is 2:3, Find the ratio
of the 5th term to 21st term, and also the ratio of the sum ofthe first five
terms to the sum of the first 21terms.
CASE STUDY
21. In the month of April to June 2022, the exports of passenger cars from
India increased by 26% in the corresponding quarter of 2021–22, as per
a report. A car manufacturing company planned toproduce 1800 cars in
4th year and 2600 cars in 8th year. Assuming that the production
increases uniformly by a fixed number every year.

Based on the above information answer thefollowing questions.

(a) Find the production in the 1st year.

(b) Find the production in the 12th year.
(c) Find the total production in first 10 years.
(d) In which year the total production will reach to 31200 cars
