BMGT4009 BiS: Alternative in Place of Assessment Centre Attendance

First: Complete the Skills Assessments

1. Go to https://www.brookes.ac.uk/students/careers/ and click on the ‘Resources’ box. Sign in using your
Brookes details.

2. Once you have signed in, click on the “My Resources” tab, then go down to the “Assessment Centre
Training” (go through all 5 sections).

3. Then complete the Management Skills assessment. You will find this by clicking on the “My Career” tab
and then “Career Assessments”. To understand your motivations, preferences and values, please take
each assessment.

4. Read the Team working skills that can be found here:

https://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/employability/team-working-skills

Followed by the discussion/explanation of assessment centre tasks:

https://www.kent.ac.uk/ces/sk/teamwork.html

Second: Write an essay (1000 words) that responds to the following:

1. Provide a summary of what assessment centres are and why they are used – with a minimum of
one reference from the below two reports (300 words)
Reading 1: Assessment Centre Exercises that promote diversity
https://www.katalytik.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Good_Practice_Guide_S2L_Final.pdf
Reading 2: Making assessment centres inclusive
https://www.psionline.com/wp-content/uploads/Designing_Assessment_Centres_AdviceGuide.pdf

2. Summarise your results that you received from both the Teamworking and Management skills
questionnaires. (200 words)

3. Are there potential problems with these results from diversity and/or social responsibility
perspectives? (300 words)
Recalling our seminar discussions from week 1, on masculine and feminine leadership traits, please cite
at least one reference from the below two academic texts:
https://hbr.org/2019/03/as-long-as-we-associate-leadership-with-masculinity-women-will-be-overlooked
https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpsyg.2018.01866/full
Assess the extent to which you agree with the results from your assessment tests. If you don't agree with
them, or find them problematic, why?

4. Discuss how you will make use of the insights gained in the future. (200 words)
You might consider engaging in the STARE technique (from your PDP) – see the week three materials –
and/or discuss the potential benefits of critical reflection in terms of what we should consider important to
leadership and teamwork

5. Referencing correctly:
1. In-text = (Surnames, year) at the end of the sentence, followed by a full stop.
2. Written up in one Reference List, correctly and in full - see cite them right
