LESSON 3

Page | 7
THE NATURE OF MAN

➢ PURPOSE: To teach the student

1. The three fold nature of man
2. How to prosper in their relationship with God and how to unlock the spirit realm

➢ INTRODUCTION
Man is not just a product of what happened between his parents, rather is a product of God.
(John 1:11-13, 3:6, 4:24). God created man as a functional being so he needed body and soul
to function on the earth. God’s word clearly teaches that man is a three part being.

➢ LOCATING THE HUMAN SPIRIT (1Thess 5:23)

The spirit is the innermost part of man. Names used for the spirit of man in the New Testament
1. Spirit (Gal 5:16-26)
2. The spirit of man (Prov 20:27, 1Cor2:11)
3. The inner man (Eph 3:16)
4. The Hidden man of the heart (1Peter 3:4)
5. The heart of man (Prov 20:5)

The Spirit part of man is made up of two entities (Eze 36:26-27, Rom 8:16)

1. The spirit of man (the recreated human spirit). Prov 20:27.

2. The spirit in man (the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit) Job 32:8

These two entities have now become one by spirirtual intercourse. (1Cor 6:17, Eph 5:31-32,
Gen 2:24)

➢ THE SOUL OF MAN (1Thess 5:23)

Sometimes used to refer to the whole being or the emotions in the King James Version. The
soul is a distinct part of man’s being and divided from the spirit by the word. It is eternal as it
is attached to the human spirit. It makes up a person’s will, emotions, mind or intellect. Just as
a man’s spirit is not his physical heart, so is a man’s soul not his physical brain.

Generally speaking, the spirit and soul cannot be separated, they go together to eternity. The
body and soul can be separated but the spirit and soul can be distinguished (Heb 4:12, Luke
16:19-31)
The Spirit: Contacts the spirit realm

Page | 8
The soul: contact the intellect realm (which is both spiritual and physical)
The body: contacts the physical realm

The soul of a man is where the battle and balance of life is won or lost and the balance of the
soul comes through the renewal of the mind. (Rom12:1-2)

After the born again experience, the most important thing is the renewal of your mind; putting
your body under subjection would naturally follow.

The human mind has a dual function when renewed by the word of God:

1. A stabilizer: your spirit man is externally fast and your flesh is extremely slow; so God
created your soul to act as a stabilizer.
2. An amplifier: it amplifies the voice of your spirit (God’s will) over the voice of your
flesh (your will)

In conclusion, God did not design the believer to live from his flesh but from his spirit
(1Cor 14:14). Both the spiritual and carnal man is influenced.

➢ THE BODY
At the born again experience, nothing happened to your body but we have a responsibility to
put our bodies under subjection (1Cor 9:27) and present it a living sacrifice (Rom 12:1)

LESSON 4

SPIRITUAL GROWTH

Page | 11
➢ PURPOSE:
1) To help the students locate where they are on their spiritual journey
2) Grow into the next stage of spiritual development
3) Determine the difference between the natural, carnal and spiritual man.

➢ INTRODUCTION
Growing up is a process the Father doesn’t have a problem with us being children but He has
a problem with us remaining children (Eph 4:8-15). The Bible teaches that there is a striking
similarity between physical and spiritual development and there are three stages in spiritual
development. They are; babyhood, childhood and manhood.

➢ MYTHS ABOUT SPIRITUAL GROWTH

1) Myth: Spiritual growth is automatic once you are born again.
Truth: Spiritual growth is a conscious effort (Phil 2:12-13, Rom 6:13)
2) Myth: Spiritual growth is mystical and only attained by a selected few
Truth: Spiritual growth is for everyone and it is practicable (1 Tim 4:7)
3) Myth: Spiritual maturity can occur instantly if we find the right key
Truth: There is no special key
4) Myth: Spiritual growth equals Bible knowledge
Truth: Bible knowledge is the foundation of growing spiritually but it doesn’t equal
spiritual growth
➢ STAGES OF SPIRITUAL FORMATION
• Babyhood (1Peter 2:2)
Two kinds of Babies
1) Bonafide babies: Newborn babies (1Peter 2:2)
2) Overgrown babies: (Heb 5:11-12)
Characteristics of A Baby Christian
1) Innocence (11Cor 5:17)
A baby is without a past; this is a characteristic we must never outgrow
2) Ignorance
They think everything they lay their hands on is intended for their mouth
3) Irritability
Babies are easily spoiled; frustrated, distracted and hurt. Christians should grow and
get off the bottle.

Page | 12
➢ CHILDHOOD (Eph4:14)
Characteristics of Children
1) Unsteadiness: they are not focused, you can’t depend on them
2) Curiosity: They want to know everything and poke into everybody’s business
3) Talkativeness: Children never learn the value of silence (James 1:19, Prov 10:19, Ec
5:3)
People who talk all the time are usually guilty of three sins
1) Evil speaking; talking about the faults and failures of people not present (1Pet 2:1,
James 4:11, Titus 3:1)
2) Vain speaking: always talking about themselves (me, myself and I) the ungodly trinity.
3) Foolish talking (Eph 5:4); jesting, joking and things that are unprofitable

➢ MANHOOD
Characteristics of Manhood
1) Esteem earthly things lightly (Heb 11:24-26)
2) Deadness to sensur or praise (1Cor 4:3-4, 1Cor13:5)
3) Ability to recognize God at work (Gen 45)
4) Ability to discern both good and evil. Heb 4:13-14)

➢ PAUL’S THREE MEN

1. The Natural Man (1Cor2:14, James 3:14-15): he has not passed from death unto life;
he is a child of the devil John 8:44, he walks according to the prince of the power of the
air (Eph 2:1-3).
2. The Carnal Man (1Cor 3:1); He is a new creature, born again, but has never developed
or grown, he is flesh ruled, dominated by his senses than his spirit.
3. The Spiritual Man: He knows his rights and privileges in Christ, he has developed in
diverse things, his Spirit has gained ascendency over his intellectual processes and his
body and his physical senses. God governs him through the word.

➢ INGREDIENT OF SPIRITUAL FORMATION

1) The Word: The right diet; the whole counsel of God’s Word in the light of the New
Testament (1Pet 2:2, 1Tim3:15).

Page | 13
2) Trial and Temptations: (James 1:2-4, 1Pet 1:7)
3) Rebuke: (Titus 2:12-13)
4) Fellowship with the word and prayer. (1Peter 2:1-2, Jude 20, John 15:1-8)
5) Be planted: (Psalm 1:1-3)
6) Deny your flesh its pleasures; let your spirit grow at the expense of your flesh
7) Service (Luke 2:52)

10) Once I am born again I do not need to be planted and serve in a local assembly. (True
or False)

LESSON 5

THE HOLY SPIRIT

Page | 14
➢ PURPOSE
To bring the students to an understanding of the workings and ministry of the Holy
Spirit in the life of the believer.

➢ INTRODUCTION
The Holy Spirit is a person. He is the third person of the Trinity and He is God’s gift to
the believer. (John 14:16)

➢ TWO WORKINGS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

1. The Indwelling: the work of the Holy Spirit in the new birth (John 3:5-8)
2. The Infilling: the work of the Holy Spirit in the baptism of the Holy Spirit (Luke 24:49,
Act 1:8, 2:4).
Note: the indwelling presence qualifies you for the infilling

➢ THE FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

This is produced as a result of the Holy Spirit indwelling presence (Gal 5:22-23). The
fruit of the Holy Spirit produces an out working of the nature and attributes of God in the life
of the believer.

➢ TONGUES
Speaking in tongues is a source of power for the everyday life of the believer (1Cor 14:18).

- Initial evidence (Acts 2:4, 10:46)

- Worship prayer spiritual edification (1Cor 14:4, Jude20, 1Cor 14:2, 14). It helps to
enrich your life spiritually.
- Continual awareness of the Holy Spirits indwelling presence.
- Pray aright (Rom 8:26, John 16:23-24). It eliminates the possibility of selfishness and
praying outside of the will of God.
- It helps you trust God fully (Jude 20).
- Keeps you from contamination, ungodly and profane elements of the world
- Praying for the unknown
- Rest (1Cor 14:21, Is 28:11-12).
- Giving thanks well (1Cor 14:15-17).
- Yield the members of your body to God (James 3:8)

Page | 15
➢ HOW TO RECEIVE OR ADMINISTER THE HOLY GHOST (John 14:16-17, Acts
2:32-33)
1. God has already given: (Act 2:1-4, 19:1-6, 8:14-15)
2. Them that believe: anyone who is saved is ready and qualifies to immediately receive
the Holy Ghost (Mark 16:16-17, Act 2:37-38).
3. Laying on of hands as a point of contact and faith. (Acts 19:1-6)
4. Tell the candidate what to expect and speak those utterances (Acts 2:4, 10:46, 19:6,
1Cor 14:2, 4, 5, 14-18, 27-28)
5. Let the candidate get over their fears (Luke 11:11-13, John 14:17, Luke 10:19)
6. Tell the candidate to open his/her mouth and speak the Holy Ghost given utterance
(John 7:37-39)
7. Keep the candidate from being distracted.

• THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT (1Cor 12:1-14)

Spiritual gifts will exalt Jesus (vs 2-3). They are manifested through individual
believers as the spirit of God wills (1Cor 12:7). They are not just given for the individual but
they are given in order to profit the whole local assembly.

• THE NINE GIFTS CATEGORISED

A. The revelation gifts: Spiritual gifts that reveals something
i. The word of Wisdom
ii. The word of Knowledge
iii. The discerning of Spirits
B. The Power gifts: Spiritual gifts that do something
i. The gift of Faith
ii. The working of Miracles
iii. The gift of healings
C. The Utterance or Inspirational Gifts: spiritual gifts that say something
i. Prophecy
ii. Diverse kinds of tongues
iii. Interpretation of tongues

NOTE: these gifts often work together e.g. tongues and interpretation.

❖ The Word of Knowledge

Page | 16
This is not the gift of knowledge. This is the supernatural manifestation by the Holy
Ghost of certain facts in the mind of God. God is all-knowing but He doesn’t reveal everything
He knows to man. He just gives Him a word or a part of what He knows.
A word is a fragmentary part of a sentence; so a word of knowledge would simply be a
fragmentary part of the entire knowledge or counsel of God.
Examples of word of knowledge in the Old Testament
→ Samuel regarding Saul’s donkey (1Sam 9:3-20,10:2).
→ The word of knowledge to Samuel regarding Saul (1Sam 10:22).
→ The word of knowledge to Elijah (1Kings 18:37-38, 19:2-14).
→ The word of knowledge to Elijah concerning Gehazi (1 Kings 5:21-26).
→ The word of knowledge to Elisha regarding Syria (II Kings 6:8-12).

The word of Knowledge in the New Testament

→ The word of knowledge to Jesus regarding the woman at the well (John 4:7-26)
→ The word of knowledge to Peter regarding Ananais and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-4)

❖ The Word of Wisdom 1Cor 12:8)

This is not wisdom in the affairs of life (James 1:5). It is a supernatural revelation by the
Spirit of God concerning the divine purposes and plans in the mind and will of God. It is the
best gift because it is a revelation concerning the plans and purposes in the mind of God.
→ The word of knowledge and the word of wisdom operating together in the New
Testament.
i. John on the isle of Patmos
ii. Ananias (Acts 9:10-16)
iii. Philip (Acts 8:26-29)
→ Old Testament examples of the word of wisdom
i. The word of wisdom to Noah (Gen 6:13-18)
ii. The Word of wisdom to Joseph (Gen 37,50, 45:5-8)
→ The Word of Wisdom in the New Testament
i. Agabus the prophet (Acts 11:28, 21:10-14)
ii. The Word of wisdom to Paul (Acts 27:10, 23-24)
→ Conditional Word of Wisdom: depends on obedience (11kings 20:1-6, Is 43:26, Jonah
3 and 4)

Page | 17
Note: The Word of knowledge is never future tense. It is present or past tense the word of
wisdom on the other hand reveals God’s plan and purposes concerning the future. It usually
comes through a vehicle called prophecy.

❖ Discerning of Spirits
This gives supernatural insight into the spirit world. To discern means to perceive by
seeing or hearing. It is seeing or hearing into the realm of the spirit. Its operation is limited to
spirits, it reveals the kind of spirit that is in operation behind a supernatural manifestation.

What Discerning of Spirit is Not

→ It is not discernment
→ It is not spiritual mind reading
→ It is not a psychological insight or mental perception
→ It is not the power to discern the faults of others (Matt 7:1): it is not fault finding.
→ It is not a spiritual gift to uncover human failures.(1 Peter 4:8). Love covers a multitude
of sins (Eph 4:32). It is not discerning of character, faults or people.
→ It is not simply discerning of devil; it deals with spirits that exist in the spirit realm
whether they are divine satanic or human.
Examples
→ Discerning the similitude of God (Exo 33:20-33, Is 6:1)
→ Discerning the risen Christ (Luke 24:39, Act 1:9, Heb 1:3, 7:25)
→ Discerning the Holy Spirit (Rev 4:5)
→ Discerning the spirit behind an operation (Acts 16:17)

❖ The Gift of Faith (Special Faith)

This is not the same as the saving faith (general faith; Eph 2:8) which is given to you
through hearing the word (Rom 10:17).
It is a supernatural manifestation of the spirit whereby a person is empowered with a
wonder working faith and it is beyond simple saving faith.

Smith Wigglesworth: if you take a step of ordinary faith, when you come to the end of
that faith, very often the supernatural gift of special faith will take over.

❖ The Working of Miracles

Page | 18
A miracle can be defined as a supernatural intervention by God in the ordinary course
of nature (11Kings 2:14, Ex 8:6, John 2:7-11). It is a temporary suspension of the accustomed
order or an interruption in the system of nature. It is operated by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Note: The gift of faith is passive while the workings of miracles is active. The gift of faith
receives a miracle while the working of miracle works a miracle. All the gifts of the spirit
operate by faith (ordinary faith).
Examples:
→ Daniel receives a miracle (Dan 6:23)
→ Jesus receives a miracle in the storm (Mark 4:38)
→ Moses and the Israelites (Ex 7-14). The working of miracles divided the sea, the gift of
faith kept it divided.
→ Elijah and the widow (1Kings 17:8-16)
→ Jesus and the feeding of the five thousand (John 6:5-14)

❖ Gifts of Healing
The gift of healings is manifested for the supernatural healing of sicknesses and diseases
without any natural sources or means. We have more examples in the New Testament than the
Old Testament (1Cor 12:9, 28, 30).

❖ Gifts of Prophecy (1 Cor 14:5)

This is the most important of the three utterance gifts. It is a supernatural utterance in a
known tongue.
Hebrew: it means to flow forth, to bubble forth like a fountain, to let drop, to lift up, to tumble
forth and to spring forth.
Greek: it means to speak for another, to speak for God or to be His spokesman (1Cor 14:1, 39)
→ The gift of prophecy (1Cor 14:3); Exhortation, Edification and Comfort.
→ The office of the prophet: to stand in this office, you must be called to five fold ministry
and manifest at least two of the revelative gifts.
→ We can all prophecy but we cannot all be prophets
→ New Testament example of the gift of prophecy (Act 21:8-9)
→ New Testament example of the prophets ministry (Act 21:10-11)

❖ The Gift of Diverse Kinds of Tongues (1Cor 12:26)

Page | 19
This is the most prominent of the three utterance gifts. This is a supernatural utterance
by the Holy Spirit in Languages never learned by the speaker nor understood by the speaker
nor necessarily understood by the hearer. It has nothing to do with linguistic ability, the mind
or intellect of man. It is a vocal miracle of the Holy Spirit.

❖ The Gift of Interpretation of Tongues

This is the supernatural showing forth by the spirit the meaning of an utterance in other
tongues. It is not translation of tongues , rather it is the interpretation of tongues. It is the last
gift because it depends on the other gifts to operate.

✓ Class Discussion
Differentiate between tongues as a devotional gift and tongues as a ministry gift.

LESSON 6

MINISTRY OF RECONCILIATION (IICor 5:17-21)

• PURPOSE:

Page | 20
1) To bring the student to an understanding that they are the hope of the world.
2) To teach the student their responsibility in reconciling the world back to Christ.
3) To teach the student how they can get personally involved in evangelism and practical
steps towards becoming an effective carrier of Gods life changing message.

People matter to God; since we know that we are saved by grace through faith, it is expected
that we change our views about those outside the family of God.

• TWO KINDS OF PEOPLE MATTER TO GOD

1. The Lost: those who are not yet in the family of God
2. The wanderers: those who have wondered away and gone wayward.

Joe Aldrich; author of the book Life-Style Evangelism: Christians are to be good news as they
share the good news. (John 15:5, Matt 5:14-16)

The impression people have on us will have a profound effect on how they view God. Our
attitudes and actions would either draw people towards God or push them farther away.

• QUALITIES OF A CONTAGEOUS CHRISTIAN

1) Authenticity
2) Compassion
3) Sacrifice
• Mother Theresa:
We are conduits of God’s love not reservoirs. The wire is you and me; the current is God. If
we are going to impact our world for Christ, the most effective approach would be through
friendship with those who need to be reached. You can’t change people if you don’t earn their
love, trust and respect.

• SIX BIBLICAL STYLES OF EVANGELISM

1) Peter’s direct approach (Act 2)
2) Paul’s intellectual Approach (Act 17)
3) The blind man’s testimonial approach (John 9)
4) Matthew’s interpersonal approach (Luke 5:29)
5) The Samaritan woman’s invitational approach (John 4)
6) Tabitha’s service approach (Act 9:36)

Page | 21
• STARTING SPIRITUAL CONVERSATION
1. The Direct Method: Raise a spiritual topic and see if the person is interested in talking
about it (John 4)
2. The Indirect Method: Take some element of the discussion topic and utilize it to turn
the conversation towards matters of God.

✓ CLASS DISCUSSION
What does it mean to be a Christian (45 sec)

• ILLUSTRATION FOR MAKING THE MESSAGE CLEAR

1. Do vs. Done: Religion is spelt “ D-O” what you do to gain God’s forgiveness and Favor;
while Christianity is spelt “D-O-N-E” what we could never do for ourselves, Christ has
done for us.
2. The Bridge illustration
3. The Roman road: (Rom 3:23, 6:23, 10:13)

• COMUNICATION TIPS
1. Don’t give a speech: people want to talk to you and not to be talked at by you.
2. Give it in doses: enough to satisfy their thirst that moment.
3. Be Bold: Boldness comes from a depth of conviction about what you believe.

• BARRIERS TO BELIEF
These are stumbling blocks that keep people from the faith.
1. Misperceptions: if you commit your life to following Jesus, you lose your fulfillment
in this life
2. Intellectual road blocks
3. Moral misgivings

In conclusion, it is all about investing our life in people. the goal of evangelism is not just
to tell people about Christ; it is the process we use to get to the goal which is to lead people
to Christ.

LEADERSHIP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

• PURPOSE
1. To teach the student how to be led by the Spirit of God.
2. God’s plan for leading His people.

• INTRODUCTION

There are many voices fighting for our attention. But as children of God, we can expect to be
led by the Spirit of God in every aspect of our lives because the cheapest commodity
availability to a believer is direction. (Rom 8:14, 16, 1Cor 14:10, John 10:4-5, Prov. 20:27)

Primarily, God did not put prophets in the church to guide the New Testament believer.
However, He would enlighten us, guide us through our Spirits. Therefore, we must be more
spirit conscious if we are to be led by the Spirit.

1. The inward witness (Rom 8:16)

This is the primary way that God leads all of His children. It is a check in your spirit
that comes as a red or green light.
2. The inward voice (Rom 9:1)
This is the voice of your spirit, usually a still small voice. (Act 23:1)
3. The voice of the Holy Spirit
This is more authoritative (Act 10:19, 1Sam 3)

GRACE

• Purpose: To teach the student

• What grace is not
• What grace is
• The various categories and aspects of God’s grace
• How to enjoy God’s grace in their daily lives

• INTRODUCTION

Grace is one of the most misunderstood truth in the church today and yet it is the most
important. It is by Grace that we are saved and on it is by Grace we are able to express His
nature. Just like we received the DNA of our parents, we received the DNA of God when we
were born spiritually.

• *
What Grace is not
Arthur W Pink: Grace cannot be bought, earned or won by the creature. If it could be, it would
cease to be grace.

1. The grace of God is not merely a prayer said after a church service.
2. The grace of God is not an excuse to make your weakness a comfort zone.
3. The grace of God is not a dead theological concept. He wants us to partake of His grace.
4. The grace of God is not a license to sin (Gal.5:1, 13, Titus 2:11-12, Rom5:20-21,6:1-
2).
5. The grace of God is not cheap
6. The grace of God is not an excuse to avoid spiritual disciplines.
7. Grace does not imply the absence of challenges or effort.

• *
What is Grace?
Everything God did in His demonstration of His Grace towards us is based on His character
and nature. Therefore grace is love acting.

• CATEGORIES OF GRACE

Page | 27
1. Saving Grace: God’s power and ability to justify us (Eph 2:8-9)
2. Sanctify Grace: God’s power and ability to purify us and enable us to live holy lives in
a corrupt world. (Titus 2:11-12, 1Thess 5:23)
3. Strengthening grace: God’s power and ability to energize and inspire us to live
victoriously, to reign over the challenge and circumstances of life. (Rom5:17)
4. Sharing Grace: god’s power and ability to meet our needs and take joy in giving to
others.(IICor 9:8, ITim 6:17-18)
5. Serving Grace: God’s power and ability to serve Him and others with His divinely
imparted gifts. (1Peter 4:10, 1Cor15:10)

• 9 THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT GRACE

1. You can grow in grace (1peter 2:1-8, James 1:16)
2. The grace of God is manifold. (1Peter 4:10)
3. Grace is freely given but it is not automatically enjoyed.
4. Grace is not a thing.(John 1:16-17, II Cor 8:9 and 13:14)
5. Grace can short circuit grace. (Gal 2:20-21)
6. You can fall from grace. (Gal 5:4)
7. You can insult the spirit of grace.( Heb 10:25-29)
8. Grace is not an independent spiritual force. It is activated through faith (Eph 2:6-8)
9. You can frustrate or make the Grace of God vain. (1Cor 15:10, Gal 2:21)

• HOW TO ACTIVATE AND RECEIVE MORE GRACE

1. Faith (Rom5:1-2, Eph 2:8)
Grace is God offering, Faith is us receiving and whatever grace has not provided, you
cannot believe for.
2. The knowledge of God’s word (Act 20:32, II Peter 1:2)
3. Rejoicing (Rom 5:2-6)
4. Waiting upon the Lord. (Isaiah 40:28-31)
5. Humility (James 4:6-8, 1 Peter 5:5-6)
6. Boldness (Heb 14:14-16, Act 4:31-33)
7. Undying Love (Eph 6:24)
8. Being in the will of God is a natural atmosphere for Grace.

THE FAMILY AND THE LOVE LIFE

• PURPOSE
To get the student acquainted with God as his father and the new law of this family

• INTRODUCTION
The Old Testament is based on a relationship between Lord and subject while the New
Testament is based on a relationship between Father and sons.

• CATEGORIES OF FAMILIES
1) Physical Family: bounded by blood
2) Spiritual Family: bounded by Spirit (John 1:13, 4:24); it is made up of two (Eph 3:14-
15)
a. The families on Earth
b. The Family in Heaven

All fatherhood heads up in God, whether the family on earth or the family in heaven. Eventually
our family home would be the New heaven and the New earth

• WHAT FAMILY DO YOU BELONG TO?

Family of Death and family of Life (John 5:24-25)

• TWO FATHERS: Who is your father (John 8:44)

• THE NEW LAW OF THE FAMILY

(John 13:34-35, Rom 5:5, 1Cor13)
This is the law of Love, God acting through His children. It is the bond which binds the family
together. The old law springs from the natural heart, this new law springs from the recreated
heart.

➢ SERVICE IN THIS FAMILY

The church is not a denomination. It is God’s family on earth. Therefore, Christianity beyond
serving God, it is a child’s living with His father.

The Foundation of service in this family is based on sonship which comes from a depth of an
understanding of responsibility.

➢ OUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS FAMILY MEMBERS

Page | 30
Jesus Christ is the head and we are the body. We have the responsibilities as family members
to
i. Be united (Eph 4, 1Cor 12)
ii. To love (1 John 5)
iii. To supply (Eph 4:16)
iv. To fellowship (Heb 10:25)

HEALING AND HEALTH

➢ PURPOSE: Teach the student

1. God’s will concerning healing and health
2. How to receive healing
3. How to keep their healing and
4. How to live in the divine health

➢ INTRODUCTION
The greatest problem most people have when it comes to healing is that they are not yet certain
that is is God’s will to heal them. However, healing is God’s will because healing is in His
redemptive plan (Gal 3:13-14, II Cor 5:21). If He was made sin that we might be free from sin,
the He was made sick that we might be free from sickness.

➢ THINGS YOU MUST KNOW

1. Sickness is spiritual
2. It is always God’s will to heal. (Mk 1:40-41)
3. It is always God’s will to heal ALL. (Acts 10:38)
4. Sickness is a product of the fallen nature. (Luke 13:16, John 10:10, 1John 3:8)
5. Sickness is not always the presence of a devil. (Matt 8:16)
6. Healing is provided both in the Old and New Testaments. (Ex 16:26, 23:25-26, Ps
103:3-5,107:17-20)
7. Healing can be initiated by God supernaturally or by man through His faith.
8. Healing is not always instant. (Luke 17:14, John 4:46-53, Mark 16:18)
9. Healing can be lost. (Matt 12:43-45)
10. Sickness is taking what does not belong to you. (Is 53:4-5, Matt 8:17)
11. Healing has already been provided. (1Peter 2:24)

➢ HOW TO RECEIVE HEALING

1. Use the name of Jesus (Acts 3, Mark 16:16-18)
2. Pray for healing to the Father in the Name of Jesus (John16:23-24)
3. Agree in prayer (Matt 18:19)
4. Anoint with oil (James 5:14)
5. The laying on of hands (Mark 16:16-18)
6. The gifts of healings (1Cor 12:9)

Page | 32
7. Act upon and believe God’s word (Is 53:4-5 Matt 8:17, 1Peter 2:24)
8. Give thanks (Mark 11:24)

➢ HOW TO KEEP YOUR HEALING

It is your responsibility to keep your healing (Rev 3:11) because the devil is a thief (John
10:10). He tries to reclaim every territory he loses. “More people loose their healing over a
counter-attack than any other one thing (P.C Nelson).

i. Get established in the word of God. (Psalm 119:89, 107:20, Matt 7:24-27)
ii. Hold fast your confession of faith. (Heb 10:23)
iii. Resist the devil. (James 4:7, 1Peter 5:8-9)

4:13).
2. Spend protracted time praying in the Spirit.(Rom 8:11, John 5:1-4, 7:37-39)
3. Eat and live well

BIBLICAL PROSPERITY

➢ PURPOSE: To teach the student

1. A balanced and biblical approach to prosperity
2. Qualification and purpose of prosperity
3. God’s perspective of giving in the new testament
4. How to be a good steward of the father’s resources

➢ DEFINITION
Biblical prosperity is the total wealth and resources of God’s kingdom coming into the hands
of the citizens of the kingdom for the sake of fulfilling His purpose and pleasure in the earth
realm.

➢ INTRODUCTION
There is only one word for prosperity in the New Testament which is a summary of all the
other words in the Old Testament.
• EUODOO (Greek)
To have a good journey (3 John 2, 1 Cor16:2, Rom 1:10)

Above all it is the fathers will that His children prosper, beyond our spiritual well being, He is
also interested in our physical, material or financial blessing. However, our physical and
material prosperity depends on our spiritual prosperity.

➢ BASIS OF PROSPERITY
1. It is the Father’s will (psalm 35:27, Luke 12:32)
2. The covenant. (Deut 8:18, Heb 8:6)
3. The blessing (Prov 10:22, Gal 3:13)
4. The redemptive work (II Cor 8:9). This is the most powerful basis of our prosperity.

➢ QUALIFICATIONS FOR PROSPERITY

1. Esteem earthly things lightly (Heb. 11:24-26)
2. Know your source
3. Contentment (Heb 13:5 , 1Tim 6:10)
4. Willing and obedient (Is 1:19)
5. Giving (Phil 4:19)
6. Priority (Matt 6:33)
Page | 34
7. Find God’s purpose for your life and stick to it (ps 65:11)
8. Sowing and reaping (Gen 8:22, Matt 6:25) gives you the advantage over the Lord’s of
the air. It takes you from substance to abundance (IICor 9:6-9)
9. Diligence (Prov 10:4, 12:24, 13:4, 21:5)
10. Be led by the spirit of God (Rom 8:14)
11. Godliness (1Tim 6:5). You can prosper living right and doing God’s will for your life

✓ CLASS DISCUSSION
Was Jesus poor?

➢ PURPOSE OF PROSPERITY
Prosperity is not measured by the accumulation of great wealth and worldly possessions.
Jesus was about doing His father’s business. The purpose of prosperity for a Christian is to
do God’s work and God’s will (John 3:16-17, Matt 9:35). In God’s economic system,
prosperity is a means to an end – world evangelism.

➢ GIVING IN THE NEW TESTAMENT

Tithe
God’s plan for financing the church and its outreaches. Tithing was introduced before the
law, regulated under the law and still practiced in the New Testament. It is an act of faith
which transcends both the Old and New covenant. “By faith” is how we should tithe not
as an act of Legalism. (Gen 14, Heb 7:22, Matt 23:23)

Offerings
This is free- will (II Cor 9:8). We need to be willing to give in obedience to God even if
we never receive one thing in return.

Kenneth E. Hagin: I believe giving should be a conscious action that is done on purpose in
a prayerful and thoughtful attitude.

➢ MOTIVES AND PURPOSE FOR GIVING

1. We should do it because we love God. Giving is anatural expression of love (John 3:16)
2. We should give to God in obedience to His word.

Page | 35
3. We should give as a means to help carry out Christ’s Great commission.
4. We should give because we want to see people blessed
5. Lastly, we should give in expectancy, believing God to honor the promise in His word
to bless and prosper us.

➢ STEWARDSHIP
A steward is a person who manages someone else’s property, finance or other affairs. As
Christians, we are stewards and we need to recognize that money we have is not really ours,
it’s a gift from God.
This is based on two main truths:
i. We are joint heirs with Christ
ii. He is the Head we are the body
Therefore, stewardship is all about using the family wealth as the Head approves and
directs. In doing this, we would have to be in tune with the Holy Spirit.
In conclusion, God is more interested in your prosperity than you are. If you not yet
embarrassed by your level of prosperity then you have not started seeing God as your
source.

➢ PURPOSE: To teach the student

1. What prayer is and what prayer is not.

Page | 37
2. Foundations of prayer
3. Importance of prayer
4. Kinds of prayer
5. The steps to answered prayer

➢ WHAT IS PRAYER

Prayer is the means where you and I stay close to God, where we communicate our hearts to
God and He communicates His love to us. It is a means where by his plans and purposes are
established on the earth. According to John Wesley, It seems God is limited by our prayer life-
that He can do nothing for humanity unless someone asks Him.

➢ WHAT PRAYER IS NOT

i. Prayer is not complex
ii. Prayer is not a position
iii. Prayer is not vain repetitions
iv. Prayer is not many words
v. Prayer is not complaining
vi. Prayer is not gossiping with God
vii. Prayer is not shouting on God

➢ FOUNDATIONS OF PRAYER
i. Prayer is based on a relationship with our father. (John 17, Ex 33:11)
ii. Prayer must first flow from a position of righteousness. (James 5:!4-17, Heb 4:15-16,
John 17:17-23)
iii. Prayer must be done in faith based on God’s word. (Heb. 11:1, Rom 4:21)
iv. Prayer must be done as led by the Holy Spirit. (Rom 8:26-27)

➢ IMPORTANCE OF PRAYER
i. Prayer gives God access to our lives and the earth
ii. Prayer enforces the defeat of the devil
iii. Prayer changes things

Page | 38
➢ KINDS OF PRAYER (Eph 6:18)
i. The Prayer of Faith (Matt 21:22, Mark 11:24)
The prayer of petition, the prayer to change things based on God’s revealed will in His
word. Never contains “IF”.
ii. Prayer of Consecration
Prayer of consecration and dedication of our lives for God’s use. “If it be thy will”.
(Luke 22:24)
iii. The Prayer of Commitment
Casting your cares upon the Lord in Prayer (1Peter 5:7)
iv. The Prayer of Worship
The highest kind of prayer (Luke 24:52-53, Act 13:1-4)
v. The Prayer of Agreement (Matt 18:18-20)
vi. Prayer in the Spirit: The accurate kind of prayer
Praying in the tongues (1 Cor 14:14-15)
vii. United Prayer (Act 4:23-31)
viii. The Prayer of Supplication
(Phil 4:6, Eph 6:18, ITim 2:1-2, Matt 9:37-38, Zac 10:1, Jam 5:7,16,18, Dan 9:2,3,17-
18, Eph 1:6, Phil 1:9, Col 1:9, 4:12)
ix. The Prayer of Intercession (Gen 18:16-33, Ez 33:11, 22:30-31, Num 14:11-19, II Peter
3:9)

➢ SEVEN (7) STEPS TO RECEIVE ANSWERS

1. Decide what you want
2. Find God’s words word that promises the answer
3. You need to ask
4. Believe that you receive
5. Refuse to doubt
6. Meditate constantly and consistently on the promises of God
7. Give God the praise

According to Andy Murray, it is not good taste to ask God for the same thing over and over
again, instead remind Him of His word and with thanksgiving tell Him you are expecting
it.
