General Information
Teaching Method Face-to-Face Online ✘ Blended

Introduction to the development of building philosophy, types of buildings,


structural elements and transfer of load among the building components,
types of foundations, geometric design of foundations, and design of stairs.
Course Description Formwork, flooring, and damp proofing, provision of joints in structures,
timber structures design drawing sections, and details of the different civil
engineering works.

 Understand the fundamentals of building structures. Know the


engineering properties of the rocks.

 Recognize the materials and components of a typical residential


house and use the correct terminology for these components.

Course Objectives  Understand the various house styles and architectural features of
homes.

 Recognize how the system gains its equilibrium and stability.

 Recognize the function of each structural member.

 It is compulsory for students to attend at least 85% of the whole time allocated to
the course. More than four (4) unjustified absences from the lecture OR more
Attendance than two (2) unjustified absences from the lab will make you ineligible to attend
the final exam. Students who know that they are going to miss class should make
arrangements in advance.

 Quizzes: Students are informed about the date of their quizzes. Check the above
course schedule to see when a quiz is due.
 Assignments: Students are expected to solve their assignments at home and are
not required to submit them.
 Disability: Students with disability need to approach the course instructor so that
commodities will be put in place to assist them.
Activities  Students should turn off your cellular phone before entering the classroom. You
should not leave the classroom to make or take cellular phone calls.
 Students should bring a notepad and/or a writing instrument to every class and
take detailed notes.
 Students should pay attention to the instructor and participate in class
discussions.

 Late submission may be subjected to a decrease in the grade that is proportional


Late Submission to the delayed days.

 Exams are in-class closed books. Students who did not attend the first/second
Exams exam due to exceptional situations (for e.g., medical emergency) will be given a
makeup exam.

 Student caught cheating will be awarded a ZERO grade in the exam and may be
Cheating and Plagiarism subject to university disciplinary actions. Any form of cheating, plagiarism,
and/or academic dishonesty will result in an "F" grade in the course.
