I .a) What is Hysteresis Curve (B-H) of a magnetic material? What is the significance of forward and reverse path of
hysteresis curve in magnetic circuit? 10
b) A steel magnetic circuit has a uniform cross-sectional area of IO cm2 and a length of I 00cm. A coil of 600 turns is
wound uniformly over the magnetic circuit. When the current in the coil is 3A, the total flux is 0.3 m Wb , when the
current is 5A, the total flux is 0.6mWb. For each value of current, calculate the (a) magnetic field strength and (b) rel~
permeability of the steel. 5
2.a) Explain the relations between magnetic flux (<I>), Magneto motive force (NI) and reluctance . Compare that with
electric circuit.9
b) What is hysteresis loss in magnetic circuit and how Hysteresis Loss in magnetic circuit can be reduced? 6

(a) What is meant by displacement current? Write down the differential form of Ampere's law . How
MaxYell modified the Ampere ' s law? (2+1+3)
(b) What is the physical significance of Poynting vector? Sbow tbat tbe radiation intensity is pro-
portional to E;,, where Em is tbe amplitude of electric fi e ld in em waves. (2+2)
(c) Suppose em waves fall normally on air-glass interface. Calculate reflectance and transmittance .
Given that the refractive index of glass is 1.5 . (2)
(d) Consider a static magnetic field given i.n Cartesian coo~~te system as B=Bo(xi-yj), where Bo
is a constant. Show that this field obeys Maxwell's equat~s' in free space . (3)

3. Two drops of water of same size are falling through air with terminal
velocities of 1 ms·1 • If two drops combine to form a single drop, what would
be the new terminal velocity?
4. What are differences between critical velocity and terminal velocity? How
do the modern vehicles avoid turbulence while rushing?
6. Water flows in a horizontal tube of length 13.6 cm and diameter 2 mm. The
pressure difference between the two ends of the tube is balanced by the
pressure of 10 cm of Hg column. If the density of mercury is 13.6xl03 kg/m3
and the co-efficient of viscosity of water 0.1 S.I. unit, find the volume of
water coming out of the tube in minute.
7. State and prove Bernoulli's theorem.
