Self Awareness
One of the defining moments in my life are experiences and interaction with several types of people. I
interact with whatever social class a person belongs to. I learned to sympathize for the poor, and I
learned to envy the rich. There are times when it is the poor that I envy and the rich that I sympathize.
From these experiences, I learn that a person cannot be defined by their social status. I learned that
what a person has gone through defines him/her. We see that it is only through experiencing and
interacting that we learn how to deal with different types of people. These experiences make us better
leaders because we learn what our people really needs, and we learn how to listen. We learn how to
sympathize, to empathize, to envy, to love, to support and to be better. And these kinds of experiences
make us better leaders for our community.
In stressful situations, I always tend to cope up taking a short break and letting things happen as they
ought to be. Taking a break makes you breath for a while and makes you think of the next processes and
decisions that you should be doing to resolve your problems. Although there are times when taking a
short break helps, there are also instances wherein taking a break worsens the scenario. For example,
we need to do a lot of things, however, since your stressed you tend to take a rest but in this case a rest
means taking more time and losing the time that should have been used to finish the work.
Most stressors that I encounter involves dealing of people. As I have said earlier, there are different
types of people and some are just so hard to deal with. To manage them, I go back to my experiences
and remind myself that there are reasons when people behave like they do. I remind myself to extend
my understanding and talk to the person I have problem with to resolve the conflict. In future situation,
to be a better leader and to resolve this stressor I make sure that I get to know a person first so I can
deal with him or her better.
To strengthen my physical, psychological, and social resiliency, I embrace change and do not dwell on
negative thinking. I know myself more and create goals, be more optimistic and develop strong personal
connections. Lastly, we do not forget to take care of ourselves.
Impact/Implications of Personality (from NEO/IPIP results). After taking the tests about my
personality, I learned that there are things that I should improve on to be a better leader. I should shift a
little more to the positive end for areas which I should score high and shift to the lower end things which
are bad for my leadership. Getting to know more about myself makes me more aware of the areas I
need to develop to become a better leader.
From these results, I can see that I really need to workout my personality more to be a better effective
leader. This may be hard, but I will do my best to change this things slowly.
I work better in challenging situations compared to routine ones. Routine works usually bore me and I
want that everyday is a new experience. I can say that I am a better follower than a leader, I work well
with team but when in situations that I need to lead, I try my best also. To improve my leadership style, I
think I need to learn more from the leaders of the institution by becoming their follower. Leaders are
also good followers. Training under the best leaders would help.
