The Legend of Mount Bromo
In the land of East Java, there stands an active volcano known as Mount
Bromo. Legend has it that the mountain was formed from the sacrifice of a young
princess named Roro Anteng. Roro Anteng was the daughter of a powerful king.
She was beautiful, kind, and loved by all. However, she was also cursed. A fortune
teller had predicted that she would bring misfortune to her kingdom. To prevent
this from happening, the king decided to sacrifice Roro Anteng. He took her to the
top of Mount Bromo and threw her into the crater. As Roro Anteng fell, she prayed
to the gods for mercy. The gods were moved by her plea and they transformed
her into a beautiful mountain. Mount Bromo is said to be the embodiment of Roro
Anteng's spirit, and it is believed that she still watches over her people from the
mountaintop.
