Assignment Guidelines
For the following questions, be sure to connect to the reading material in your book. This is a writing
assignment, so answers should be written in complete and coherent sentences and paragraphs. Answers in
the A range will refer to the text and fully explain how the concepts learned in the text apply to the question.
You may type your answers directly into this document after the prompts, save it, and then upload it into the
submission box.
Play through the Moral Minefield level for this week and answer the following questions:
1. Copy and paste (or screenshot) your Level overview and scores. You can find this information again in
your Overview & Profile.
2. Reflect on the scenarios presented in the game. Was there anything you found particularly difficult?
Anything that surprised you?
The "corporate policy" scenario is challenging because it puts you in a position where you must decide
between maintaining company policy and preserving a valuable employee. On the one hand, maintaining
order and fairness and consistent enforcement of corporate policies. However, firing a vital member of staff
for a relatively small infraction could lower morale and send the wrong message to the rest of the staff.
The "bonus time" scenario's difficulty caught me off guard. At first, I believed that the best course of action
would be to reduce staffing levels in order to finance the bonuses given to senior employees. But I also
understood that this solution would probably lower morale and make the fired employees feel unfairly
treated.
3. Explain one of the decision-making scenarios you were given in this level and analyze it in terms of one
of this week’s theories.
(Note: for full credit, be sure you name the theory you are using, explain the theory fully, and then explain
how the scenario illustrates that theory)
In feminine ethics, emphasizes the importance or relationships, care and responsibility (Fryer, 2014). In the
"corporate policy" scenario, the employee's relationship with the company and her community contributions
must be taken into consideration when deciding whether to fire her for filing a false expense report. She is a
cornerstone of the business and the community, and throughout her career, she has never done anything
wrong. Her dismissal would be a major setback to employee morale and convey a message that the business
does not value its workers.
4. How could you use the concepts discussed in this simulation in your job today? Relate these concepts
to the other course materials and to your own experiences.
(Note: for full credit, be sure discuss a specific scenario, a specific example from your own experiences, and
a specific connection to something you learned from the text)
For many years, the Air Force has used the slogan "to do more with less" to express its need to fulfill its
mission objectives with dwindling resources. Budget cuts, rising operational demands, and technology
advancements are some of the reasons for this. A useful framework for reaching these conclusions in a
morally just and ethical manner is discourse ethics. Discourse ethics places a strong emphasis on the value of
reasoned discussion and dialogue in the process of making moral decisions. This means that in order to get
feedback on how to accomplish more with less, Air Force leaders should have conversations with all relevant
parties, such as Airmen, their families, and the community. When making decisions, the leaders should also be
open and responsible.
