COURSE DESCRIPTION
Measurement of Construction Works III looks at the sequences involved in measuring construction
works studied at level 300. These sequences include extracting dimensions from drawings using
taking off sheets, squaring and abstracting to arrive at definite quantities and preparing Bills of
Quantities. Areas of study at this level include but not limited to external works, plumbing works,
fencewall measurement, drainage works and electrical services measurement.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES / COMPETENCIES


It is expected that at the end of the study, the student knows the processes involved in calculating:

1) lengths, areas and volumes of kerb construction, paving and horticultural works.
2) plumbing works – pipes work, fittings, ancillaries, sanitary appliances, etc.
3) areas, volumes and weight of items of work in fence wall measurement – earthworks,
concrete works, formwork, reinforcement, block wall, copings, render and painting.
4) drainage works – underground pipe work, manholes and septic tank
5) highand low voltage cabling and wiring, luminaires and accessories in a typical domestic
building.
The student should be able to prepare Bills of Quantities for the study areas.
