Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is inspired by the vision of transformational change in rural development
processes by leveraging knowledge institutions. The conceptualization of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan
started with the initiative of a group of dedicated faculty members of the Indian Institute of
Technology (IIT) Delhi working for a long in the area of rural development and appropriate
technology. All participating institutions (PIs) are expected to establish a UBA Cell which will be
responsible for carrying out the activities of the UBA. This will involve the development of an active
working group consisting of motivated faculty members drawn from various disciplines. To guide
and monitor the activities of the UBA Cell in each institution, there will be an Executive Committee
and a local advisory committee (which will be chaired by the Head of the Institution). The main
responsibility of a NDIM UBA cell is to primarily develop linkage with 5 selected rural clusters
(Madangir, Khirki, Satbari, Chirag Delhi and Jaitpur) to promote the requisite S&T interventions to
improvise and expedite the developmental efforts in those clusters. Also NDIM will also be
responsible for developing the competence of its working group by appropriate orientation, training
and creation of appropriate ethos within the institution towards indigenous and sustainable rural
development, and initiating requisite curricular modifications and other facilitating measures. In this
whole process we are facilitated and mentored in their activities by IIT Delhi.
We at NDIM regularly participate in the events organized by UBA and have also adopted 5 villages
in Delhi to help in the goal of national development. In this regard, we will require your time and
managerial capabilities to administer this initiative under UBA's guidance. The Project Volunteers
will be commended by MoE and IIT-Delhi with a certificate of appreciation for their valuable input
and a stipend will be paid for the effort. This will require visiting villages in Delhi and compiling the
data in the survey form from the households in these localities. Once the survey is complete, some
of you will be asked to present your findings to the esteemed panel at IIT-Delhi. The survey and
findings presented will help in understanding the requirements in the locality and a monetary fund
will be released towards the construction of the said requirement. This will be a great opportunity
in learning survey techniques and take you closer to the real workings of rural development.
