NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT OBJECTIVES OF THE PHILIPPINE EDUCATIONAL

SYSTEM

2.1 Get a copy of the “National Development Objectives of the Philippine

Educational System”.

The objectives of the Philippine education system encompass raising the quality
of education, promoting inclusion and equity, and developing human capital through
lifelong learning opportunities [1] [2]. The system aims to address perennial issues,
improve quality education delivery, manage tasks for teachers effectively, and establish
benchmarks for academic excellence [4]. Furthermore, the system strives to instill
critical and creative thinking skills, numeracy, communication, teamwork, and domain-
specific skills in students to adapt to evolving innovation and economic demands [5].
However, despite significant reforms and initiatives, challenges persist due to
governance issues, lack of comprehensive policy responses, and unaddressed critical
functions within the sector [3]. To achieve academic and economic goals, continuous
research is essential to identify problems and provide effective solutions for sustainable
development in the Philippine education landscape.

7.11 Detailed Lesson Plan

Lesson Plan: Identifying and Understanding Cleaning Agents

Grade Level: 8 TLE (Technology and Livelihood Education)

Duration: 2 hours

Learning Objective:

Students will identify different cleaning agents.

Students will discuss the uses of different cleaning agents.

Students will create a diagram showing the advantages and disadvantages of using cleaning agents.

Materials Needed:

Variety of cleaning agents (e.g., dish soap, vinegar, bleach, baking soda)

Whiteboard and markers

Paper and colored pencils/markers

Chart paper for group diagrams

Projector and computer (if necessary for presentations)

Safety goggles and gloves

Handouts with information about cleaning agents (chemical composition, uses, safety precautions)

4 A’S FORMAT:

1. Anticipatory Set (5 minutes):

Begin with a question: "What do you think is the most important aspect of maintaining cleanliness in our
homes?"

Allow students to respond and guide a brief discussion.

Introduce the topic of cleaning agents: "Today, we are going to explore the different cleaning agents we
use daily, their purposes, and their advantages and disadvantages."

2. Activities (120 minutes):

Teacher's Activity: (30 minutes)

Introduction to Cleaning Agents: Use the whiteboard to categorize cleaning agents into groups such as
household, industrial, and eco-friendly cleaning agents.

Demonstration: Show samples of various cleaning agents and discuss their uses. For example:

Dish soap: breaks down grease

Vinegar: effective for removing hard water stains

Bleach: disinfectant and stain remover with safety concerns

Baking soda: a gentle abrasive cleaner and deodorizer

Safety Guidelines: Discuss the importance of using safety goggles and gloves (hands-on demonstration)
when working with certain cleaning agents, especially bleach.

Students' Activity: (30 minutes)

Group Discussion: Divide the class into small groups (4 students each) and assign each group a specific
cleaning agent. Each group will research their assigned agent using handouts and compile notes on:

The chemical composition

Common uses

Advantages and disadvantages

Each group will prepare to share their findings with the class. Each group will prepare a short (2-3
minute) presentation.

Teacher's Activity: (20 minutes)

Group Presentations: Allow each group to present their findings to the class, encouraging questions and
further discussion after each presentation.
Students' Activity: (20 minutes)

Diagram Creation: On chart paper, each group will create a diagram illustrating the advantages and
disadvantages of their assigned cleaning agent. They must use colored pencils/markers for clarity and
creativity.

Provide students with a sample diagram format:

Title of the cleaning agent (center)

Arrows pointing outwards to two sections: Advantages and Disadvantages

Each section should include at least 3 points with brief explanations.

3. Application (30 minutes):

Teacher's Activity:

Class Discussion: While the groups work on their diagrams, facilitate a class discussion asking questions
such as:

“Why is it essential to know the advantages and disadvantages of cleaning agents?”

“How can eco-friendly cleaning options impact our health and environment positively?”

Students' Activity:

Gallery Walk: Once diagrams are completed, a gallery walk will be conducted where each group will
display their diagrams around the classroom. Each group will rotate and leave feedback on other groups'
diagrams, discussing what they learned and asking questions. Encourage them to take notes of what
they find interesting or informative.

4. Assessment (15 minutes):

Exit Ticket: Distribute index cards and ask students to write down:

Two cleaning agents they learned about today.

One advantage and one disadvantage of a chosen agent.

One new thing they learned about cleaning agents.

Collect cards as students exit the class for assessment purposes to determine understanding of the
learning objectives.

Closure (5 minutes):

Summarize the lesson by highlighting key points, such as the definition of cleaning agents, their uses,
and their pros and cons. Reinforce the importance of safety while using various cleaning agents.

Preview the next lesson, potentially focusing on environmental impacts and natural alternatives.

Differentiation/Assessment for Diverse Learners:

Provide additional resources for struggling students or English Language Learners (ELL) such as picture-
based handouts.

Encourage advanced learners to explore local or traditional cleaning methods as an extension project.

Offer one-on-one support during group work for students needing extra assistance with the research or
diagram creation.

Reflection for Teacher Post-Lesson:

Reflect on student engagement during discussions and group activities.

Evaluate whether students could meet learning objectives based on exit tickets.

Adjust future lessons based on what worked well or needs improvement, considering the interests and
needs of students.

By following this structured lesson plan, students will not only engage with the content but will also
retain valuable knowledge about cleaning agents and their implications in daily life.

The DepEd’s Mission and Vision are well-aligned with the overarching goals of the K to 12 curriculum,
which aims to provide quality, inclusive, and globally competitive education that fosters lifelong
learning and values-based growth. However, challenges related to resources, teacher training, access to
technology, and curriculum relevance need to be addressed to strengthen this alignment. By focusing on
infrastructure improvement, industry collaboration, teacher professional development, and community
engagement, DepEd can ensure that the K to 12 curriculum fully realizes its mission and vision,
preparing students to succeed both in the local and global arenas.
