UNIVERSITY & JOB INTERVIEWS

Job and university interviews can be


challenging. For some people, the idea of
answering basic interview questions is enough
to make them shy away from the job search.

However, with a little knowledge and


preparation, you can answer interview
questions with confidence.
Interview Questions
To help you prepare for your university and further job interviews, your teacher has compiled a list of common interview
questions that may be asked by interviewers at any interviews you attend, and questions you can ask to the interviewer.
TO THE INTERVIEWER
• Why did you choose the modality you're doing ?
• Why do you want to study this degree at university?
• Why did you apply to this university?
• What can you bring to this university?
• What skills have you gained from your baccalaureate?
• If we asked your friends what are your good and bad points, what do you think they would say?
• How would you describe yourself?
• What are you best at?
• What are your main interests?
• What do you think university can offer you?
• Why should we offer you a place?
• Why is your degree/job important?
• What are the most important current developments in your studies/qualifications?
• What are your career plans, if any?
• What qualities do you possess to follow your chosen career/job?
• Have you been abroad?
• What positions of responsibility have you held and what did you learn from them?
• What have you most enjoyed at school?
• Are you good at working on your own?
• What opportunities have you had for exercising leadership?
• What are your strengths?
• What are your weaknesses?
• Tell me an achievement you are proud of.
TO THE INTERVIEWEE
• Can you tell me more about (the academic program you’re interested in)?
• What sort of career planning services are available at this school?
• What is your favorite thing about this college? Least favorite?
• Any advice for incoming freshmen?
• What sets this school apart from the others?
• What qualities does this school look for in its students?
• How would you describe the atmosphere of this college / campus?
• What sort of community / campus involvement opportunities are available here?
• What are my next steps? / Do you need anything else from me?
• When can I expect to hear back from the school?
• If they’re an alumni: why did you decide to attend this college in particular? What did you think
of your time during school here?
• A professor or faculty: why did you decide to work here?
• What traditions does the school have that you enjoy?
• What is something you would change about the college if you had the opportunity?
• Can you tell me about this specific club?
• Do you have any extracurricular organizations or clubs you’d suggest joining? Why?
• What do you think about X (something unique and specific to the college?
• Are there any grants?

• Imagine you have to attend a personal interview today.


You’ve followed the teacher´s advice and now... it’s
your next oral presentation and you’ll do it well.
• Remember to include some of the previous questions
together with the specific vocabulary learnt from your
book.
• You’re going to work in pairs, one of you is going to be
the interviewer and the other one the interviewee.
• The presentation will last 6/8 minutes in total. Very
important: Don't´read; you can have notes but try to
be natural.
