THE TEACHER OF THE FUTURE!
How has the world changed in the past 2 decades?
Change to education
 How teaching is delivered?
 How learning occurs?
Being technologically skilled and having a deep
understanding of computers and technology is a
skill that need only be acquired by ICT teachers
and ICT specialists (Fresta, 2001)
Discuss
Is it important that every teacher has the skills to
teach and assess online as well as be skilled in
various aspects of ICT?
PURPOSE OF THIS
MODULE
The purpose of this module is to expose you as a
teacher-in-training to the role and place of
technology in education. Technology or Information
and Communication Technology [ICT], can
never be excluded from discussions around
teaching, learning, and assessment.

You are not expected to master software or

become skilled ICT or software technicians, what
this module will attempt to do, is to equip you with
the theoretical knowledge around the value of ICT
in education.
Using the BYOD approach in this module

The concept of BYOD, is aligned with the use of ICT in education, and
stands for: Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). In this module we will be
covering aspects of teaching and learning, with a greater emphasis on
assessment, and more so assessment in the digital age. During each
lecture, you will be given simple tasks in class, that will require you to
use your Own Device [any device]. If you however do not have a device
in class, you may work with a peer. These activities will take around 5
mins to complete. You will log into the university’s WiFi, and not be
expected to use your own data (you can however use your own if you so
wish).
So, what is the purpose behind these weekly activities?
Digital portfolio of evidence (DPoE)

By the start of the 2nd week of lectures, each one of you will be
expected to have a virtual online storage account. Your virtual online
storage account MUST be a Google Drive account. [Some of you may
already have]

What is a DPoE?
All your work and activities that are presented to you in the
respective weeks should be saved in the DPoE, [Google Drive]
At the end of the Semester, you will be assessed for the
structure and contents of your DPoE.
So if you do not have your device in class, you will be expected
to update and include the activity into your DPOE on

Why is this needed?

At the end of the Semester, your DPoE and its contents will be
assessed, and that carries a certain weighting.

Tutors
Tutors will assist those who need help creating your DPoE on
They will set up sessions to assist you.
Every 3 weeks, the DPoE will be assessed by your Tutors.
GOOGLE ACCOUNT
If you all have a Google Account, then you automatically will
have a FREE Drive account.
Once you have your Google Account open
GOOGLE ACCOUNT
If you all have a Google Account, then you
automatically will have a FREE Drive account.
Once you have your Google Account open
Digital portfolio of evidence (DPoE)
Once you create your Google-Drive account, you will need to Create a New Folder,
then label it as My FSM2B DPoE “your student number”
Digital portfolio of evidence (DPoE)
In this folder My FSM2B DPoE “student number”, you will then save
all your tasks in weekly folders that you complete during the various
weeks. At the end of the semester, Tutors will then assess the Folder.
