Lesson 4: Semester 2

DR M MOODLEY & TUTORS

In the course of this module, you will be engaged with online
teaching and learning.
Steps to manage your learning.

1. Being ready to learn: assessing your motivation, self-confidence, and

learning preferences.
2. Setting learning goals: identifying what you want to learn and how
you will measure your progress.
3. Engaging in the learning process: choosing and implementing
appropriate learning strategies and resources.
4. Evaluating learning: reflecting on your learning outcomes and
feedback.
Learning approaches

1. Learner Autonomy: Emphasizes the learner's control

over their learning process.
2. Lifelong Learning: Promotes continuous learning and
personal growth.
3. Andragogy: Focuses on adult learning principles and
methods.

READ THE FOLLOWING QUOTATIONS CAREFULLY
WHAT IS THE COMMON MESSAGE
IN ALL THESE QUOTES ?

The common thing about these quotes is that a

Teacher remains important regardless of technology
being implemented
WHAT IS THE COMMON MESSAGE IN ALL THESE QUOTES ?

A teacher and his/her actions are central to the success of

the use of ICT in teaching and for learning….
WHAT IS ICT?

Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) is a

broader term for Information Technology (IT), which refers to all
communication technologies, including the internet, wireless
networks, cell phones, computers, software, middleware, video-
conferencing, social networking, and other media applications
and services.
INTEGRATING TECHNOLOGY INTO
TEACHING, LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT
Technology is a ubiquitous part of children's lives. As
prices of technology drop, computers and digital devices
may replace television as we know it. In many
classrooms there are computers, however how are they
being used?

Technology has revolutionized the way we think, work,

and play. Technology, when integrated into the
curriculum, revolutionizes education.

More and more studies show that technology integration

in the curriculum improves students' learning processes
and outcomes.

REASONS WHY TEACHERS USE ICT
How do we explain
the acceptance,
adoption and use
of ICT by teachers?
To explain anything in life, we need to
base it on something………

3. MODEL
1. So why do some teachers use ICT, while others don’t.
2. Why can some teachers integrate ICT into teaching while
others can not?

THEORETICAL STANCE ON THE INTEGRATION OF ICT
INTO TEACHING AND LEARNING

In this lesson we will look at 3 key constructs that relate to

the use or integration of ICT into Teaching:

1. The Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge

(TPACK) framework
2. Authentic Learning and Assessment Model
3. Technology Acceptance Model [TAM]
TECHNOLOGICAL PEDAGOGICAL CONTENT
KNOWLEDGE
(TPACK).

WHAT IS TPACK?

It is a model that demonstrates “effective teaching

techniques that use technology wisely to teach
subject content”
WHY DO WE NEED TPACK
• Introducing technology [ICT] into teaching is not sufficient, ICT
has to be meshed or integrated into teaching the content.
• Using ICT must lead to effective teaching.
• To embrace ICT and use it wisely in teaching.
• Use ICT to make transference of subject content easier and
more context relevant.

• Content and pedagogy blended together

• Describes how to teach specific subjects.
• Teacher interprets the content and decides the most appropriate and exciting
way to teach it.

INTEGRATING THE 3 ELEMENTS = TPACK

The TPACK overlap indicates effective teaching techniques using ICT

wisely to teach specific subject content.
WISE WORDS!!

Knowing how to use technology is not the same as

knowing how to teach it”

AUTHENTIC LEARNING

Authentic learning is a
pedagogical approach
allows learners to explore,
discuss, and meaningfully
construct concepts and
relationships in contexts
that involve real-world
