Your Guide to Leaderboard 1

1 An Overview of Leaderboard
Leaderboard is based on decades of research
that answers one question:

What makes a stock go up in price?

The research showed seven key characteristics shared by

the biggest winning stocks of all time, and we use those
characteristics to identify stocks that are setting up for
big gains right now. We’ll identify the stocks for you, then
tell you the ideal prices to buy and sell them for big gains.

The keys to success

Buy the strongest growth stocks at a proper buy point

Hold for a price run-up, sometimes adding more shares

along the way

Lock in gains at key times and cut losses quickly

Here’s how Leaderboard gives

2 The 3-Step Routine for
Using Leaderboard
A daily routine is the most important key to
success with Leaderboard.
DAILY ROUTINE

1 Check the Market Trend

Found in the top-right corner of the Leaderboard homepage.
When it says “Market in Confirmed Uptrend” and a green arrow is pointing

up, that indicates it’s the most favorable time to buy new stocks and

generate big profits. If the arrow is yellow or red and it says “Uptrend Under

Pressure” or “Market in Correction,” it’s a riskier time to trade. You should

approach trades cautiously.

2 Familiarize yourself with the stocks in the

Leaders List
Located in the left column of the Leaderboard homepage.
Take a few minutes to look at each stock, including the chart, the buy range,

the Leaderboard Analysis and the Backstory. This will help explain the

thinking behind the trade and let you know how our experts view the stock.

3 Review the latest Leaderboard buy/sell alerts

Be ready to take action when you receive a new alert.
If you buy and sell Leaderboard stocks as close to the optimal times that

our team suggests, you’ll have the best chance to maximize your profits

and minimize any drawdowns.

Buying and Selling Stocks
on Leaderboard

WHEN TO BUY
Buy a stock when it’s in the IBD® Buy Zone. If you enable desktop
notifications or download the mobile app, you’ll get a Buy Alert when
the stock reaches a buy point.

Buying tip from our experts:

Sometimes a stock will jump in price after a Leaderboard Buy Alert is sent.
If you receive an alert but the stock is out of the IBD Buy Zone by the time
you’re ready to trade, don’t chase it. Wait to see if it comes back into the
Buy Zone, or move on to the next trade.

WHEN TO SEll
To track Leaderboard’s performance, sell a stock when you receive a sell
alert on your desktop browser or mobile app. Keep in mind that sell alerts
can involve selling your entire position or a fraction of it. This can vary
based on market conditions; for example, if the market suddenly takes a
hit, we might reduce exposure to avoid losses.

Selling tip from our experts:

Pay special attention to Leaderboard sell alerts around the time that the
market closes (1pm PT / 4pm ET). Many times, the Leaderboard team
will wait to see how the stock acts heading into the final hour of market
action. Our goal is to avoid selling prematurely based on early market
fluctuations, also known as getting shaken out. 6
How Many shares should you buy?
Buying the right amount of shares is almost as important as the
stock you’re buying. Too many, and you’re taking on more risk.
Too few, and you’re not generating the type of profits that make
a difference in your portfolio.

Leaderboard represents a model portfolio. Each stock added to

Leaderboard is designated with a position size, which will often
change as more shares are added or sold. The position size is listed
under “Current Action” in green text on the Trade Setup.

3 The System Behind
Leaderboard
Leaderboard generates market-beating returns
in part because it’s based on the time-tested
CAN SLIM® Investing System. This system was
created by legendary investor William O’Neil based
on decades of research into one question:

What makes a winning stock?

O’Neil found that the best stocks throughout history

shared seven characteristics; these characteristics
are each represented by one letter in the acronym
“CAN SLIM.” This system takes into account key
factors like earnings and sales growth, institutional
sponsorship and market trend.

Fundamental Analysis + Technical Analysis + Market Timing

Many traders employ either fundamental analysis or technical analysis

to guide their buy and sell decisions. Leaderboard combines both:
fundamental analysis to identify the stocks, and technical analysis
to determine when to enter and exit the trades. On top of that,
Leaderboard uses a market timing system that protects you during
market corrections and maximizes gains during strong uptrends.

Fundamental Analysis
Looks at the underlying attributes of the companies behind the stocks.
Earnings, sales and return on equity are all examples of fundamentals
that are considered when determining the strength of a stock.

Technical Analysis
Relies on examining stock charts for clues about when to buy and sell a
stock. Base patterns, relative strength and moving average lines are all
examples of indicators that are considered by technical traders.

Market Timing

Allows you to make profitable trades during strong uptrends and avoid
painful losses during downtrends. Leaderboard’s market timing system is
based on more than 100 years of stock market research and precedents.
