Contoh Narrative
A long time ago, there were two animals, Sura and Baya. Sura was the name of a shark and
Baya was a crocodile. They lived in the sea.
Once Sura and Baya were looking for some food. Suddenly, Baya saw a goat "Yummy, this
is my lunch," said Baya. "No way! This is my lunch. You are greedy" said Sura. Then they
fought for the goat. After several hours, they were very tired.
Feeling tired of fighting, they lived in different places. Sura lived in the water and Baya lived
in the land. The border was the beach, so they would never fight again.
One day, Sura went to the land and looked for some food in the river. He was very hungry
and there was not much food in the sea. Baya was very angry when he knew that Sura
broke the promise. They fought again.
They both hit each other. Sura bit Baya's tail. Baya did the same thing to Sura. He bit very
hard until Sura finally gave up and went back to the sea. Baya was happy.
The Legend of Toba Lake
In the past, there lived a young orphan farm in the northern part of the island of Sumatra.
Syahdan, the young man made his life from farming and fishing. One day while he was
fishing he got a fish which was so beautiful in golden brown. While he was holding it, the fish
turned into a beautiful princess. The princess was a woman who was condemned for
violating the prohibitions and it would turn into a kind of creature who first touched it.
Because at that time the human touched it, then it turned into a princess.
Fascinated by her beauty, the young man asked her to be his wife. The application was
accepted on condition that the young man was not allowed to tell the origin of the princess
who came originally from fish. The young man agreed to this requirement. Having got
married for a year, the couple got a boy but he had a bad habit that he never felt satisfied
while he was eating. He ate all the food.
One day the boy ate all the food that should be given to his father. The young man then so
angrily said: "basically you are the offspring of fish!" That statement by itself unlocked the
secrets of his wife and broke his promise.
Shortly afterwards, his wife and son magically disappeared. Suddenly in the land of their
former footsteps went out the springs which were very heavy. The water flew from these
springs continuously and the longer it happened the larger it would be. Finally, these springs
became a vast lake. The lake is now called Toba Lake
The Lion and The Mouse
When he was awakened by a tiny Mouse running across his body, a mighty Lion was
sleeping in his lair. The lion then grabbed the frightened mouse with his huge paws and
opened his mouth to swallow him directly. "Please, King," begged the Mouse, "Spare me this
time and of course I will never forget your kindness. Someday I may be able to repay you.
"The Lion thought that it was such an amusing idea that he let the poor creature go.
Sometimes later the Lion was caught in a net laid by some hunters. Despite his great
strength, the Lion could not break free. Soon the forest echoed with angry loud roars.
The Little Mouse heard the Lion and ran to see what was wrong. As soon as he succeeded
to make the Lion free "There!" said the Mouse proudly, " You laughed at me when I
promised to repay your kindness, but now you know that even a tiny Mouse can help a
mighty Lion."
Buffalo and Crocodile
One morning a crocodile was struck by a large piece of wood. The crocodile asks for help to
be saved. A buffalo has the intention to help the crocodile. The buffalo raised a piece of
wood that fell on the crocodile and moved it to another place. But without being noticed, the
kindness of the buffalo carried a catastrophe for him. The buffalo's feet are bitten by a
crocodile because he intends to eat the buffalo. The buffalo was in pain and asked the
crocodile to release its legs. The crocodile keeps biting the buffalo's feet and tries to drop it.
Then came the wise mouse deer. Deer see a buffalo being bitten by a crocodile. The buffalo
asks the deer to help him escape the crocodile. Kancil is very clever and asks buffalos and
crocodiles how it can happen. Buffalo and crocodile also told of the incident but his opinion
was different. The buffalo told the truth and the crocodile lied that he had moved the large
piece of wood. Kancil actually already knew the actual chronology, but he pretended not to
know. Kancil also said that he did not believe in the talk of Buffalo and Crocodile.
Then buffaloes and crocodiles showed the mouse deer that he was strong enough to lift the
big wood. The buffalo asks the crocodile to release his leg for a moment so he can show his
strength to the mouse deer. He lifted the large wood with its horns. Then the crocodile does
not want to lose to the buffalo and asks that the big wood be thrown over the crocodile's
body. The buffalo threw the large wood over the crocodile's body. Crocodile managed to lift
the big wood but not as strong as a buffalo. Because the crocodile was no longer able to
hold back the wood, he asked the buffalo to lift the wood back.
The buffalo wants to help lift the wood again. But the deer said, do buffaloes want to die?
For a moment the buffalo thought because of the deer's words. He realized that if the wood
was lifted again, the buffalo's legs would be bitten by a crocodile. Finally the buffalo did not
lift the big wood. Then the buffalo with the mouse deer left the crocodile crushed by the
wood
Ants and Pigeons
One morning there was an ant who wanted to find water. The ant goes around looking for
water and finally finds a river. On the edge of the river, ants are looking for ways to bring
water to the nest. Then he tried to take the leaves to make a container of water. But because
the river flow was very heavy, the ant was carried away by the river currents and almost
sank.
Ants ask for help to be saved. Near the river there are pigeons who see ants in trouble. The
dove picks a leaf and throws it near the ant. He intends to help the ants through the leaves.
Ants reach the leaves thrown by pigeons. Not long after that the ants finally survived with the
help of pigeons.
Ants also thank the dove. Then the dove went and perched on a tree. Soon there was a
hunter who wanted to shoot the pigeon. Seeing that, the ants want to repay the good of the
dove by thwarting the hunter's plan. When a hunter wants to shoot a dove, the ant
immediately bites the hunter's feet. Then the hunting bullet finally misses and can't hit the
dove. Merpati also immediately went away from the hunter's place. Finally the ants and
doves survived the catastrophe that happened to him.
The Legend Of Banyuwangi
Once upon a time, there was a King named Sulahkromo. The king was helped by a Prime
Minister named Raden Sidopekso. The Prime Minister had a wife named Sri Tanjung. She
was so beautiful that the king really wanted to marry his wife.
One day, the King assigned his Prime Minister to a long mission. While the Prime Minister
was away from his wife, the King tried to get Sri Tanjung. However he failed and he was very
angry. Thus, when Sidopekso went back, the King told him that his wife was such an
unfaithful wife. Soon the Prime Minister was very angry with his wife. Sri Tanjung said that it
was untrue but Sidopekso didn't believe her and said that he would kill her. Then he brought
his wife to the river bank. Before he killed her and threw her into the river, his wife had said
that her innocence would be proven After Sidopekso killed her. After that, he threw her dead
body into the dirty river.
The shocking fact happened not long after that when the river immediately became clean
and began to spread a wonderful fragrance around. Sidopekso said, "Banyu...Wangi...or
Banyuwangi". This means "fragrant water". Banyuwangi was born from the proof of noble
and sacred love.
