General Information

General Guidelines
1. Registrants must be a bonafide member of Unified Junior Philippine Society of
Mechanical Engineers - Northern Mindanao A.Y 2024-2025. Additionally, they
must be student members of either a Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers
(PSME) student unit or the Junior Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers

2. The players must be registered at the General Assembly 2024. If you’re not yet a
member, please fill up the google form with this link: https://tinyurl.com/6efrts8y
3. Each school must submit their registration forms on or before November 15, 2024,
11:59 PM).
● Changes to the list of participants are allowed within a twenty-four (24)
hour period only.
● Each school must have One male and Female representative.
● If a school fails to provide participants for a certain sport, it will be declared
as no entry and receive the lowest score.
4. Each player must bring a chess set and a chess clock (if not available you can
download a chess clock).
5. Each game will be announced ten minutes before it starts. An allowance of five
minutes after the scheduled game will be given to each team. Failure for any team to
be present during the said allowable time will lose by default.
6. The organizers of the event have the right to call off, postpone, and reschedule the
events/games after consultation with the umpires/referees 2 hours prior to the
scheduled event. Any questions or complaints of the players regarding the decisions
of the officials and organizers must go through each school representative.
Safety Guidelines
1. The tournament will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of the
World Chess Federation (FIDE).
i Time Control:
• The tournament will use a time control of 20 minutes per player per game.
• The clock will be started at the beginning of each player's turn and stopped at
the end of the turn.
• If a player's time runs out, the opponent wins the game.
• The tournament will use a Round Robin format, in which players are grouped
based on their scores and play against opponents with similar scores.
2. Scoring System:
• A win is worth 1 point, a draw is worth 0.5 points, and a loss is worth 0
points.
• The player with the most points at the end of the tournament will be declared
the winner.
• In case of a tie, A single elimination will be implemented.
3. Illegal moves
• Major Offenses: Wrong movement of the piece, exposing the king to an attack;
capturing the opponent’s king, and non-replacement of the piece after pawn
promotion.
• Minor Offenses: such as touch moves; using two hands in making a move;
displacement of piece/s on the chessboard; use of force in pressing the chess
clock and non-recording of moves.
4. Penalties
• Major Offenses: 1st offense loss of game
• Minor Offenses: 1st and 2nd offense warning; 3rd offense loss of game.
5. Game Etiquette:
• Players must refrain from talking during the game.
• Players must not touch a piece unless they intend to move it.
• Players must not distract or disturb their opponents in any way.
• Players must raise their hands if they need assistance or have any questions.
6. Tournament Etiquette:
• All participants are expected to behave in a respectful and sportsmanlike manner
towards each other, the organizers, and the spectators.
• Any participant who violates this rule may be subject to disciplinary action,
including disqualification from the tournament
