Weekly Plan (18th November – 22nd November)

Resource Books: Onward Maths Textbook and workbook


i. The Index must always be filled out for all the work done in the copy.
ii. Students must follow the proper format for writing down Day, Date and
Topic for each assigned task in the copy.
iii. All practice worksheets must be solved and pasted in the copy to
maintainrecord.
iv. Complete step-by-step working is mandatory. It must be shown in the
copy,workbook, and practice worksheets.
Lesson 1:

We will continue with measuring angles. We will practice angles at a point.

Lessons 4 – Introduction to Co-ordinate Grid

We will be starting with Chapter 6: Position and Movement.

What is a Co-ordinate Grid?

A coordinate grid is like a map that helps you find the exact location of things. It's
made up of two lines that cross each other at right angles. These two lines are called
axes:

1. The horizontal line (left to right) is called the x-axis.


2. The vertical line (up and down) is called the y-axis.

Together, these lines create a grid with lots of boxes or squares. You can use this grid
to locate points by giving two numbers, called coordinates.

Students will be shown a blank coordinate grid on the board and label the x-axis and
y-axis. The co-ordinate grid will be explained in more detail later.

Where Are Coordinate Grids Used in Real Life?

1. Maps and GPS:


o When you use a map or GPS, coordinates (like latitude and longitude) help
you find a specific place, like your home or a restaurant. They tell you exactly
where you are on Earth.
2. Video Games:
o In many video games, there is a grid-like world. Your character moves based
on coordinates (like going to position (4, 6) on the map). This helps the game
know where your character is and what is around them.
3. Robots and Drones:
o Robots, like those in factories or even flying drones, use coordinate grids to
move to specific places. The robot knows where to go by following
coordinates, like (5, 2), to reach its destination.
4. Science and Astronomy:
o Scientists use coordinate grids to chart where stars, planets, and galaxies are
located in the sky. This helps them track objects in space.
5. Sports:
o In sports like basketball or soccer, coordinate grids can help coaches track
where players are on the field or court during a game. It helps them plan
plays and strategies.
Coordinate grid:
Objective: The students will be able to identify and plot points on a
coordinate grid.

called a quadrant.

expressing the
coordinates of a point.
Inquiry approach:
 What do you notice about the coordinates of the points in each quadrant?
 Are all the coordinates of the points in the second quadrant positive
numbers?
 In which quadrant will we plot the coordinates (-4, -3)?

Key Points:
- The coordinate grid consists of a horizontal x-axis and a vertical y-axis.
- The x-axis represents the horizontal position and the y-axis represents the vertical
position.
- The point (0,0) is called the origin and is located where the x-axis and y-axis intersect.
- The x-coordinate tells you how far to move horizontally and the y-coordinate tells you
how farto move vertically.
- The order of the coordinates is always (x, y).
