Solution:
We have to find 2 numbers whose product is a 1 digit number and the sum is a 2 digit
number.
These 2 numbers are 1 and 9.
Product of 1 and 9 = 1 × 9 = 9 and Sum of 1 and 9 = 1 + 9 = 10.

Solution: If 31Z5 is a multiple of 9, then the digits must add to a number that is a multiple of
9.

When k = 1, 3 + 1 + Z + 5 = 9

Solution:
Let the ten’s place digit be ‘x’ and unit place digit by Y.
2 digit number is xy = 10x + y
Given 10x + y = x + y + 18
9x = 18
X=2
Also given y = 2x = 2 × 2 = 4
2 digit number = 10x + y = 10 × 2 + 4 = 24.
22. In a 2 digit number the digit in the units place is four times the digit in the ten’s place and
sum of the digits is equal to 10. What is the number.
Solution: Let the original number be 10a + b
Then b = 4a and a + b = 10
We put b = 4a in a + b = 10
a + 4a = 10

5a = 10
a=2
therefore, b = 4a
b = 4(2)
b=8
The number is 10a + b
= 20 + 8

23. The cost of a toy car is a two digit number PQ. Its selling price has same digits as cost
with digits interchanged (Rs QP). If its profit margin is divided by 9. Find the remainder of
division.
Solution:
Cost price of toy car = pq = 10p + q
Selling price of toy car = qp = 10q + p
Profit = Selling price – Cost price
= 10q + p – (10p + q)
= 9q – 9p
= 9 (q – p)
Profit = 9(q – p) is an multiple of 9.
Therefore the remainder when divided by 9 will always be 0.
