We get 1 + 3 + 2 = 6 = P
Therefore, Q = 7 and P = 6

10. Meena’s roll number is a two digit number 49. Her friend Riya roll number has the same
digits as Meena’s roll number, but digits interchanged. If they add their roll number and
divide the sum by 11. Find the remainder of this addition.
Solution: Meena’s roll number is 49
Riya’s roll number is 94
On addition, 49 + 94 = 143

If this number is divided by 11 then = 13

11. 2A8 is a number divisible by 2 what might be the value of A?
Solution: If the unit digits is 0, 2, 4 or 8 (even numbers) then it is divisible by 2.
A value can take any number from 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

12. Check whether 6582 is divisible by 4?


Solution: The number formed by last two digits is 82, is not divisible by 4. Hence the given
number is not divisible by 4.

13. Check the divisibility of 1528 75 by 9.


Solution: The sum of the digits of 152875 is
1 + 5 + 2 + 8 + 7 + 5 = 28, this number is not divisible by 9.
The number 152875 is not divisible by 9.

14. If 18x is a multiple of 3, where x is a digit. What is the value of x?


Solution: Since 18x is a multiple of 3, it sum of digits 1 + 8 + x is a multiple of 3. So, 9 + x is
one of these numbers: 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18…..
Since x is a digit, it can only be that 9 + x = 9, 12, 15, 18.
Therefore, x can have any of four different values x = 0 or 3 or 6 or 9.

15. Find two numbers whose product is a 1 digit number and sum is a two digit number.
Solution:
We have to find 2 numbers whose product is a 1 digit number and the sum is a 2 digit
number.
These 2 numbers are 1 and 9.
Product of 1 and 9 = 1 × 9 = 9 and Sum of 1 and 9 = 1 + 9 = 10.

16. check the divisibility of 2147681 by 3.


Solution: 2 + 1 + 4 + 7 + 6 + 8 + 1 = 29, which is not divisible by 3.
Therefore, 2147681 is not divisible by 3.

Question (17 – 20): 3 – Marks

17. If 31Z5 is a multiple of 9, where Z is a single digit, what is the value of Z?

Solution: If 31Z5 is a multiple of 9, then the digits must add to a number that is a multiple of
9.
3 + 1 + Z + 5 = 9k ( k is an integer)
When k = 1, 3 + 1 + Z + 5 = 9
Z+9=9
Z=0
At, k = 1 and Z = 0
3105 is divisible by 9.
3105
 = 345

At, k = 2,
3 + 1 + Z + 5 = 18
Z=9
Then number is 3195 is divisible by 9.

 = 395

At, k = 3, then 3 + 1 + Z + 5 = 27
Z = 18, but Z is a single digit.
Therefore, the two values of “Z” are 0 and 9.
Produce the multiples of ‘9’.

18. Find A in the addition

20. Write the following numbers in the usual form


(a) 4 × 10 + 3 = ?
(b) 2 × 100 + 9 × 10 + 6 = ?
(c) 3 × 1000 + 6 × 100 + 0 × 10 + 9 = ?
Solution:

Question (21 – 25): 5 – Marks

21. A two digit number exceeds the sum of the digits of the number by 18. If the digit at the
units place is double the digit in the ten’s place. What is the number?
Solution:
Let the ten’s place digit be ‘x’ and unit place digit by Y.
2 digit number is xy = 10x + y
Given 10x + y = x + y + 18
9x = 18
X=2
Also given y = 2x = 2 × 2 = 4
2 digit number = 10x + y = 10 × 2 + 4 = 24.

22. In a 2 digit number the digit in the units place is four times the digit in the ten’s place and
sum of the digits is equal to 10. What is the number.
Solution: Let the original number be 10a + b
Then b = 4a and a + b = 10
We put b = 4a in a + b = 10
a + 4a = 10

5a = 10
a=2
therefore, b = 4a
b = 4(2)
b=8
The number is 10a + b
= 20 + 8
=28

23. The cost of a toy car is a two digit number PQ. Its selling price has same digits as cost
with digits interchanged (Rs QP). If its profit margin is divided by 9. Find the remainder of
division.
Solution:
Cost price of toy car = pq = 10p + q
Selling price of toy car = qp = 10q + p
Profit = Selling price – Cost price
= 10q + p – (10p + q)
= 9q – 9p
= 9 (q – p)
Profit = 9(q – p) is an multiple of 9.
Therefore the remainder when divided by 9 will always be 0.

24. Find the digits A, B and C in

Solution:
2345 = 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 14 is not divisible by 9
3456 = 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 = 18 is divisible by 9
4567 = 4 + 5 + 6 + 7 = 22 is not divisible by 9
5654 = 5 + 6 + 5 + 4 = 20 is not divisible by 9
5678 = 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 = 26 is not divisible by 9
Therefore, 3456 is the only number divisible by 9.
