EXTERNAL VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) is a public


Limited Company, which is wholly owned by the Government of the Republic
of Uganda, and holds the following operational licenses. System Operator,
Operation of the High Voltage Transmission Grid, Bulk Power Supply, Import
and Export of Power and; Public Infrastructure Provider (for ownership and
operation of the Optic Fibre).

UETCL invites applications from suitable and eligible candidates to fill the
position of:

Job title : Substation Operator - (2 Posts)

Department : Operations and Maintenance

Reports to : Senior Maintenance Engineer-Substation

Job Purpose: To monitor day to day substation plant, equipment, plant


house and staff management in UETCL primary substations.

Key Result Areas

1. Management and monitoring of UETCL plant/site installations to


ensure proper functionality of all plant equipment.
2. Carry out local switching operations in accordance with
instructions from the National Control Centre.
3. Manage plant equipment, casual labourers as well as security
personnel and ensure safety within the plant.

4. Inspect, operate and maintain substations and various
transmission, distribution and generation apparatus consistent
with company policies and safety regulations.
5. Operating switching devices that disconnect power from
equipment or reroute it to other circuits in response to signals from
computers or dispatch operators
6. Monitoring equipment performance, such as voltage levels, current
flow, and temperature levels, to ensure that they are within safe
operating ranges
7. Maintaining records of work activities, including accident reports,
repair schedules, and work orders
8. Checking meters to make sure they are accurate and recording
any discrepancies
9. Following safety procedures at all times while working around high
voltage electrical equipment
10. Operating switching devices such as contactors, circuit breakers,
relays, and transformers to control the flow of electricity through
power lines and in accordance with instructions from the National
Control Centre
11. Responding to emergencies such as natural disasters and fires by
operating equipment that can restore power quickly
12. Reviewing maintenance requests from stakeholders and following
up to ensure that work is completed correctly

THE PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

 Must have an Ordinary Diploma in Electrical Engineering with


 A minimum of 2 years’ experience in Substations maintenance
 Must be prepared to work for long hours outside the normal hours.
 Must be prepared for full time deployment in any of UETCL's
substations that may be in remote areas or upcountry.
