Veritas Access Appliance Licensing Guide
Introduction
The Veritas Access Appliance Licensing Guide is a reference document designed for use by Veritas partners and
customers. The Licensing Guide describes licensing concepts and options available for Access Appliances and provides
details that help guide the customer on how to order. For any question or comments about this guide please contact your
Veritas representative.
Product Overview
Veritas™ Access is a scale-up storage solution for NetBackup data and unstructured data. Deployed on a turnkey
appliance with useable capacities ranging from 255TiB to 2545TiB, Access is optimized for the requirements of long-term
data retention – delivering near-primary storage performance at or near the price point of tape and cloud LTR solutions.
Access is available in both single-node (denoted as 3360) and dual-node (denoted as 3360HA) configurations.
Customers choose the Access 3360HA appliance model when they need immediate Availability in the most demanding
environments, and choose the single node Access 3360 Appliance when they need to prioritize cost over Availability.
Irrespective of the number of nodes, Access storage is licensed by useable capacity.
Key benefits:
• Application integration with NetBackup and Enterprise Vault
• Capability of writing deduplicated data from NetBackup BYOS or NetBackup Appliances to Access directly without
the need to rehydrate the backup images
• File and image retention management controlled via secure internal clock
• Immutable storage option via MSDP WORM protects backups from ransomware attacks
• Compliant with STIG and FIPS 140-2 security standards
• Data encrypted both inflight and at rest
• Zero Trust Architecture used for all external interfaces and internal applications
• Controlled access with MFA via CAC cards and authentication applications
• Quorum approval, aka Multi Person Authentication, for greater control over user access
• Clustered nodes provide high availability with application affinity
• Auto Image Replication, and Veritas Volume Replication support DR requirements for multiple sites
The Access 3360 Appliance follows the same purchasing model as Access 3350; it is sold as two distinct line items: 1) 3360
Hardware Appliance and 2) 3360 Access Appliance Software. Customers will need to purchase the 3360 Access Appliance
Software license in the same total useable capacity as the hardware.
The Access 3360 Appliance Software is offered on a Term-based license model (or sometimes referred to as a subscription),
on a per Terabyte (TB) meter (One TB = 1024GB), where TB is measured by the back-end capacity (BETB) of the appliance
on which it is installed. A Term-based license allows customers to license the product during a specific time period (either
36 or 60 months); Software maintenance/support is included in the price of the term license. During the period of the term
license, customers have the right to use the product, install product updates provided as part of maintenance/support, and

receive technical support. Customers do not own the license, but they will have all the entitlements of ownership as long
as they have a current subscription. At the end of the term, customers must cease use or renew the subscription to continue
using the product. Additionally, with the Term-based license, customers can transfer their license to a new 3360 Hardware
Appliance, as long as the Access 3360 Appliance Software is uninstalled from the original 3360 Hardware Appliance(s) on
which it was installed. The same Access 3360 appliance license cannot be used on two different appliances simultaneously.
• Note the 3360HA appliance has the “HA” designator to indicate two nodes.

The purchasing works the same for expansion shelves as with the Hardware Appliance with Access Appliance software.
For each TB of expansion capacity, customers will need to purchase the software capacity equal to the capacity
expansion, such that the total Access Appliance Software TBs purchased equal the total capacity of the Hardware
Appliance + Expansion Shelves.

Access Appliance 3360 and 3360HA models support EBODs with different drive capacities than were shipped with the
appliance. The caveat is once a different capacity EBOD is added to the appliance, only that EBOD capacity may be
used for future upgrades. For example, if a 636TiB EBOD is added to an Access Appliance 3360HA 255TiB, then only
636TiB EBODs may be added for future upgrades. If upgrading using the new 1272TiB EBOD, then only one may be
used as additional 1272TiB EBODs would create a configuration larger than what is supported.
Also, all Access Appliances come only with full shelves, so mixing of drives capacities within a shelf is not possible and is
not supported.
