I. OBJECTIVES
The English Month Spelling Bee aims to:

improve correct grammar usage;
B. Encourage students to write with clarity and purpose in both oral and written
communication;
C. Engage students in interactive and enjoyable learning experiences to build confidence,
language proficiency, and academic skills.
II. MECHANICS
A. Class Representative Selection
- English teachers will conduct a class elimination round to select one representative
from each section. Only one contestant per section will be allowed to compete in the
final Spelling Bee.
B. Competition Rounds
- The Spelling Bee will consist of three main rounds: Easy, Average, and Difficult, with a
clincher round in the event of a tie.
Points Per Round:
 Easy Round – 1 point per word (10 words)
 Average Round – 3 points per word (8 words)
 Difficult Round – 5 points per word (6 words)
 Clincher Round – 1 point per word (3 words)

C. Time Limits per Round

 Easy Round: 5 seconds per word
 Average Round: 8 seconds per word
 Difficult Round: 10 seconds per word

D. Advancement Criteria
 After the Easy Round: Only the top ten (10) scorers will advance to the Average Round.
 After the Average Round: Only the top five (5) scorers will proceed to the Difficult Round.
 Tie-Breaker: In the event of a tie at the end of the Difficult Round, contestants will
participate in a Clincher Round to determine final rankings.

E. Contest Directions
1. Contestants should listen attentively to the spelling master as each word is announced.
2. Each word will be given with a definition and an example sentence to ensure clarity.
3. Contestants are instructed to wait for the cue, “GO!” before writing their answers on
their boards.
4. All answers must be written legibly. Excessive erasures or unclear writing may affect
scoring.
5. Upon hearing “TIMES UP!”, contestants must raise their boards immediately; failure to
do so will forfeit their answer for that round.

F. Late Arrivals

 Contestants arriving after the start of their scheduled round will be permitted to join, but
they will forfeit any points from words they missed prior to their arrival. No extra time or
rounds will be provided to accommodate latecomers.

competition and adhere to all contest rules upon joining.
