SCHOOL OF SCIENCES AND ENGINEERING

Engineering Program
General Requirements
If engineering is your intended major, make sure to write it down in the appropriate
field on your application form (intended major). The following majors are available:
❑ Architectural Engineering*
❑ Computer Engineering
❑ Construction Engineering
❑ Electronics and Communications Engineering
❑ Mechanical Engineering
❑ Petroleum Engineering
The following are the minimum requirements to apply for the engineering majors.
Acceptance may be higher depending on available space.
❑ American High School Diploma:
To qualify for admission, completion of pre-calculus and physics courses in grades 11
or 12, and chemistry in Grades 10, 11 or 12 is required. In addition to a minimum SAT
I-MATH score of 560. If the student completes SAT II, the SAT-MATH score will only
be considered if it is higher than the SAT I-MATH score. Also, a minimum GPA of 3.0
in the science courses completed in Grades 10, 11 and 12 is required.
❑ British Certificate (IGCSE/GCSE):
Completion of four O-level science courses (math, physics, chemistry and a fourth science
or information technology course), plus EITHER two science courses at the AS-level (math
and physics or chemistry) OR an advanced-level math course is required to qualify for
admission. Students should score As or A*s in the 5(6) courses. However, a minimum
grade of B is accepted in no more than two courses of the 5(6), provided the two Bs are
not both in math courses.
❑ Canadian Certificate:
Completion of math courses in grades 11 and 12, a physics course in grades 11 or 12,
and a chemistry course in grades 10, 11 or 12 is required to qualify for admission.
A minimum overall score of 80 percent (overall and science subjects) is required to
qualify for admission.
❑ French Baccalaureate:

www.aucegypt.edu [email protected]
Completion of math, physics and chemistry courses with a minimum grade of 70
percent in math, and an average of 70 percent in the three courses, is required to qualify
for admission.
❑ German Abitur:
Completion of math, physics and chemistry courses, with a minimum grade of 10 in
math and physics and an average of 10 in these three courses, is required to be eligible for
admission.
❑ International Baccalaureate (IB):
Completion of math, physics and chemistry courses with a minimum grade of 4 in math
and an average of 4 in the three courses is required to qualify for admission.
❑ Thanawiya Amma (Egypt):
Completion of two math, physics and chemistry courses is required to qualify for
admission. Students should not score below the average cut-off score of engineering
schools or national universities by more than 2 percent to qualify for admission. The
average cut-off score will be announced after the first round of tanseeq.
❑ Thanawiya Amma (Arab Countries):
Completion of math, physics and chemistry courses is required to qualify for admission.
After excluding any religion courses from the overall score, students should not
score below the average cut-off score of engineering schools for national universities
announced after the first round of tanseeq to qualify for admission.
*Important Note:
Students intending to major in architectural engineering must sit for a placement
test/workshop addressing the cognitive abilities of students. The test examines spatial
