ASSURE MODEL

ASSURE
The ASSURE model is an instructional design
framework often used to plan and deliver
effective lessons that integrate technology
and media. Developed as an adaptation of the
ADDIE model, ASSURE stands out for its focus
on the learner’s needs and active involvement
in learning
The model has six stages:
1. Analyze Learners: Understand your students’
backgrounds, learning styles, and existing
knowledge. This helps in tailoring lessons to suit
their specific needs.
2. State Objectives: Define clear and measurable
learning goals, which guide the lesson’s purpose
and expected outcomes.
3. Select Media and Materials: Choose appropriate
instructional resources, including technology,
media, and teaching materials, to support
learning objectives.
4. Utilize Media and Materials: Plan how the chosen
resources will be effectively implemented during
the lesson, ensuring that materials are ready and
that the classroom setup supports learning
activities.
5. Require Learner Participation: Encourage student
engagement through interactive tasks, discussions,
and activities that promote active learning.
6. Evaluate and Revise: Assess both student
performance and the lesson’s effectiveness to
identify areas for improvement.
RECOGNIZING
AND COUNTING
PHILIPPINE
COINS
GRADE LEVEL: 2ND GRADE MATH
LESSON DURATION: 30-40 MINUTES
LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Students will identify and name common

Philippine coins: 1 Peso, 5 Peso, and 10
Peso coins, as well as the 25 centavo
coin.
Students will count various combinations
of these coins to reach a total amount
up to 20 pesos.
ASSURE LESSON PLAN STEPS:

1. Analyze Learners:
Class of 2nd graders includes visual and
kinesthetic learners, and many may already be
familiar with Philippine coins from everyday
life.
Students have varying skill levels with basic
counting and are enthusiastic about hands-on
activities.
ASSURE LESSON PLAN STEPS:

2. State Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, students
should be able to identify Philippine
coins, recall their values, and count
combinations of coins up to 20 pesos
accurately.
ASSURE LESSON PLAN STEPS:

3. Select Media and Materials:

Use images of each coin type on an interactive
whiteboard or chart.
Prepare real or toy Philippine coins for each student
or group, along with worksheets showing different
coin combinations for counting practice.
Use a visual counting app or a classroom money game
to reinforce counting practice, accessible on a tablet
or the teacher’s device for group demonstration.
ASSURE LESSON PLAN STEPS:

4. Utilize Media and Materials:

Begin by showing images of each Philippine coin and briefly
discussing their values and unique features (size, color, and
shape).
Play a short educational video about money and its uses in
daily life, emphasizing Philippine coins.
Guide students in examining the coins, asking them to match
coins with their values, and then reviewing as a class.
Use the counting app or game to demonstrate how coins can
be added together to make certain amounts (e.g., “Show me
how you can make 10 pesos using different coins”).
ASSURE LESSON PLAN STEPS:

5. Require Learner Participation:

Engage the class by asking them to identify each coin
displayed on the board.
In pairs, students practice arranging real or toy coins to
make specified amounts (e.g., 5 pesos, 12 pesos) using the
handouts.
Encourage students to share their combinations with the
class, explaining how they arrived at the total.
Conclude with a coin-counting game where students have to
“buy” items (pictures of snacks or school supplies) by
counting out the exact amount in coins.
ASSURE LESSON PLAN STEPS:

6. Evaluate and Revise:

Assess student understanding through worksheet
accuracy and observation of group activities.
For individual evaluation, ask each student to
count out a specific amount in coins on their own.
After the lesson, review student feedback to
adapt future lessons, such as providing more
visual aids or extra time for practice with coin
counting.
