Carmen is 12 years older than David. Five years ago, the sum of their ages was 28. How old are they
now?
Age (-5)
D+7
( D + 7 ) + ( D - 5 ) = 28
2D + 2 = 28
-2 -2
2D = 26
D = 26/2 =13
A candy store owner wants to mix two types of candy: one costing $2 per pound and another costing $3
per pound. She wants to create 50 pounds of a mixture costing $2.50 per pound. How many pounds of
each type of candy should she use?
Let
- x = pounds of $2 candy
- y = pounds of $3 candy
- Equation 2 (Total Cost): 2x + 3y = 2.50 * 50 (The total cost is $2.50 per pound * 50 pounds = $125)
y = 25
x + 25 = 50
x = 25
: Answer
The candy store owner should mix 25 pounds of the $2 candy and 25 pounds of the $3 candy.
DISTANCE, RATE AND TIME PROBLEMS
- Problem: Two cars leave the same point at the same time, traveling in opposite directions. One car
travels at 40 mph, the other at 50 mph. How far apart are they after 3 hours?
- Solution:
Answer: I'm watching in YouTube then I'm analyse the problem, then I tried my best to make my own
problem and solutions.
2.How did you determine that your own constructed problem is aligned inthe 3 topics mentioned?
Answer: These problem types are frequently used in algebra courses to practice setting up and solving
equations.
3.What do you think of the level of difficulty you encountered uponconstructing the problem?
Answer: The problem types demand careful reading, logical reasoning, and the ability to apply
appropriate mathematical concepts to real-world scenarios.
5.Enumerate the steps you follow upon answering your constructed problems.
