Introduction

The introduction outlines the critical role financial support plays in the academic performance of
students. It highlights the expectation that financial assistance may enhance academic success, while
also addressing concerns about potential negative impacts, such as financial irresponsibility. The context
of financial support in the Philippines, particularly among college students, is discussed to establish the
relevance of this research.

Problematic Issue
The primary issue addressed is the unclear relationship between financial support and academic
performance among students. While some studies suggest a positive correlation, others indicate that
financial aid may lead to complacency or poor financial management among students.

Problem in Local Context

In the local context of Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology
(SPAMAST), there is a lack of empirical data regarding how daily allowances affect students' academic
outcomes. This gap necessitates a focused study on IBMG students to understand their unique financial
situations and academic challenges.

Research Gap
Despite existing literature on financial support and academic performance, there is limited research
specifically targeting IBMG students at SPAMAST. This study aims to fill this gap by exploring how
different levels of financial support correlate with academic success within this demographic.

Significance of the Study

This research is significant for multiple stakeholders:

- SPAMAST Administration: Insights can lead to improved support programs for financially
disadvantaged students.

- Parents: Findings may guide parents in providing appropriate financial assistance to enhance their
children's academic performance.

- Students: The study will educate students on managing their finances effectively.

- Teachers: Educators can gain insights into how financial literacy impacts student success.

- Future Researchers: This work will serve as a foundation for further studies on related topics.
Objectives of the Study
1. To analyze the socio-demographic profile of IBMG students.

2. To assess the effect of financial support on students' determination to study.

3. To evaluate the relationship between financial support and academic performance.

4. To identify significant factors influencing academic outcomes based on financial assistance.

Conceptual Framework
The conceptual framework will illustrate the hypothesized relationships between financial support
(independent variable) and academic performance (dependent variable), incorporating socio-
demographic factors as moderating variables.

Hypothesis
The study hypothesizes that higher levels of financial support positively correlate with improved
academic performance among IBMG students at SPAMAST.

Research Locale
The research will be conducted at Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of
Technology, focusing on IBMG students enrolled for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Research Design
The study will utilize a quantitative approach, employing stratified random sampling to select
participants from different year levels within the IBMG program.

Sampling Design and Technique

Using Slovin’s formula, a sample size of 280 respondents will be determined, ensuring representation
across various socio-demographic profiles.

Respondents of the Study

Participants will include bona fide IBMG students from 2nd to 4th year who receive daily allowances.
Data Analysis (Insert Table)
Data will be analyzed using statistical methods to determine correlations between financial support
levels and academic performance indicators.

Instruments
An adapted survey questionnaire will be utilized to collect data on daily allowances, satisfaction with
financial support, and academic performance metrics.

Data Gathering Procedure

Data collection will occur from January to February 2024, involving distribution of surveys to selected
respondents followed by collection and analysis.

Statistical Tools
Percentage and Frequency

These tools will be used to determine the socio-demographic profile

of the respondents in terms of gender, age, degree, year level, daily

allowance, scholarship grant, and general weighted average.

Mean

This tool will be used to determine the level of financial support of

the respondent

Pearson Moment Product Correlation

This tool will be used to determine the significant relationship

between the effect of financial support and academic performance of the

students.
